2 Gouramis died within 12 hours of each other, no other fish

Well, I guess it's the iridovirus, no more Gouramis for me. Both my neon blue and red flame gouramis died today. Both were alive and eating this morning, the blue was dead when I got back from class, the red was dead when I got back from work this evening. They went into the tank in mid-August and have been doing fine, this is totally random. I've only had 2 other losses in the tank, 2 albino cories that died the day after I got them, otherwise, no fish have died til now.

None of my other fish died: angelfish, neon tetras, or corydoras.

What could I replace them with that would provide the same color and activity, while only adding 6" total length. I was thinking of taking my female betta out of her half of the split 10 gallon and getting another male, but that would still leave me with 3", maybe another loach?

Im sorry you lost the little ones... I had the same problem with dwarfs... my first two died when I first got the tank and just a couple of weeks ago I got me a new one... Im keeping my fingers crossed.

Maybe trying a gourami that isnt from the same LFS?

All of my fish have come from the same store, and I've had these guys about 3 months now. I can't decide if I want to put a female Betta in there or 3-4 Bosemani Rainbows...

You might be running a risk with the female betta, but thats a matter of luck if she is a mellow one...

The rainbows would be gorgeous! You may also want to consider rams...they're very interesting fish. I just got a couple for my 55 gal last weekend and love them!

How many rams could I fit? I had about 50" of fish with the Gouramis. I can put in 4 rainbows and be at the limit of fish I want to have...

You could easily fit 2 rams. You could either do a breeding pair or buy two different kinds. If you go for two different color varieties, make sure you either get a male and a female or two females...2 males will most likely harass each other. My male bolivian and female german gold are getting along wonderfully though! I'm glad I don't have to make this choice...Bosemani Rainbows are gorgeous fish.

I would also suggest rams or cockatoo cichlids.

I picked up a pair of German Blue Rams this evening on the way home from work. Pics when I get my camera back. They look really beautiful!
