I just bought a dwarf gourami yesterday and found it odd the way he eats. He'll devour a flake then spit it up, eat the little pieces he spat out, eat them again, and so on...

Is this normal?

Yeah, thats normal... a lot of fish eat that way, its like their version of chewing.
