Fat gourami

My female gourami seems to have gotten fatter in her stomach area since I got her.Does anyone have a clue why?

How fat? Do the scales appear to stick out?

Is she feeding and acting normal?

Hi pinky i have the same issue with one of mine, ive read back in some really old threads and people suggest that when this happens the fish could be constipated, egg laden or suffering from dropsy.

I don't think it's a disease because she looks fine and eats like normal so maybe she might be egg laden.

How many gouramis do you have in your tank? Have you determined male/female for them? My gourami is a piggy eater, and gets pudgy, but I always watch to see if he's making poops. Constant hi protein type food can also get them blocked up. Be nice if they could tell us what's up Another thought, if you just got it, the fish stores don't always feed on a schedule,or they keep the fish hungry, so they eat like they've been starving, until they realize that they'll get fed regularly.

Keep an eye on her -- I had the same thing happen to one of my honey gouramis, and I thought she might be pregnant. But it turned out to be swim bladder disorder, and she died within a day after I discovered that.
