dwarf gourami attack

I'm new to this hobby (only a couple of months) and have run into a small problem. I have a 46 gal bowfront, planted, and stocked with 5 black skirt tetras, 5 serpea tetras, 3 platys, 1 pleco, and 1 dwarf gourami.
My problem is that every time the gourami comes out of hiding, the black skirts attack him. They've already nipped his feelers down to nubs.
From the research I did, I thought they would be compatible. Even the LFS said they would be. Is there anything I can do to stop, or minimize, these attacks?

Re: dwarf gourami attack

don't understand what is wrong, u can add 2 more black skirts and see what happens.
or u can change the decoration of the tank and put the fish back.

Re: dwarf gourami attack

i think the dwarf gourami will need to be isolated and moved to a different tank, if possible.. it seems as if he's just become a target of aggression for some unknown reason and could use some time to not be stressed and attacked so that he can heal. VitaChem can help that a good bit.

I agree with Dave. Fish have personalities just like people do, we've heard of everything from docile Jack Dempseys to hyperaggressive dwarf gourami that would attack fish three times their size. Part of it is just personality. Perhaps you have a street gang for tetras.
