driftwood from beach

I found some nice pieces of driftwood from the beach and want to put it in my freshwater tank. Would this be a bad idea since I got the wood from the beach? Is there something special to do to get the salt out? Thanks.

there were some great piece at the beach. i live in florida so when the hurricanes pass they toss some excellent pieces on the beach.
