Does my bogwood have Ich??

Hi everyone!

My bogwood - which has been in the tank for several months now, has recently developed white spots - about the size of a pin-head. These are spreading rapidly and starting to look unsightly.

Does anyone have any idea what this is and how to treat it?

Good morning. I'm not exactly sure what it is but it isn't ICH. Possibly some type of algae is forming.

Agreed with Aquarist, ICH is a parasite, that needs a life source to be able to sustain its own simpler life. This would involve having a living life source as the host, and as driftwood isn't living, it wouldn't be able to sustain a parasitic life form as it has no energy or resources to be able to sustain such a life, be it simple or not. Also, ICH is much smaller, like grains of salt, pin heads are rather large for it to be ICH.

I'd lean towards some form of white algae, or an aquatic fungus of some kind.

Maybe take it out and boil it again, you'll lose some benefical bacterial, so I'd maybe add some filter media from another tank if you have one whilst the driftwood recoups the bacteria.

Good luck!

They're Nerite snail eggs ( I think)

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the replies. Forgive my English humour..I WAS joking about the Ich

Meanwhile, I think I found the culprit - Nerite snail eggs. I'm at least hoping that's the case because having spent months on getting moss to develop on the wood, I'd hate to ruin it all. Apparently the eggs resemble white sesame seeds - which they do, having had a much closer look.
What d'ya think? Am I right or totally off track? Anyway, thought I'd post my latest discovery - in case anyone else is in the same boat.

I'm English, I think I should brush up on my humour LOL! I think you're probably on the right track with the snail eggs, I'd just keep an eye on them really. My snails prefered to lay on my in-tank breeder or on decor, so yours may have done the same.
