What is it?

what exactly is drift wood? also, what is bog wood? i have to different types of wood in my tank, i'm not sure what they are though.

at my LPS they sell smallish pieces of drift wood and i was wondering what the purpose was. i know plecos chew on them and they lower the pH and they are good display, but is there another reason? couldn't you just find a piece of wood somewhere and use that? or is this specially treated for fish tanks?

thanks

thanks for that link! how much does drift wood cost where you live? here it is about $200 for a large piece, about 2 foot long and 2 foot tall, looks great. a piece that's about a third of the size is about $40 or $50. is this a good price?

thanks, and thanks for the good morning, but here it is about 8:30 pm, thanks anyway!

driftwood is expensive to buy for sure. You can go out and find your own. You cannot use certain types of wood though pine being one. Hardwoods are better as they wont decompose as quickly. Make sure the type of wood you use doesn't have any toxins as well. Manzanita is a common wood where I live and is very well suited for tanks.

I live on a creek bank so when I do decorate with driftwood that is where I get it from. I used cypress stumps for a couple of years that a friend of mine collected. They worked well and really looked nice. Hope you share some pictures if you decide to use some in your tanks. Good luck!
