| Great Craiglist Find: DRIFTWOOD!!! So I spend an insane amount of time in Craigslist through-out my day. I'm always on the look out for the next "great deal of the century"
I ended up finding a listing from someone in Chicago who was re-doing their discus tank and looking to sell (2) nice pieces of driftwood..already attached to slate. After exchaning a couple of emails with the guy (and playing a little dumb in regards to curring driftwood etc..) I realized that this guy was for real and knows a thing or two about keeping fish. He lives about 45 min from me BUT Karma must have been on my side because it turned out he worked only like 2 minutes from my office. I met him up last friday and the driftwood looked even BETTER in person.
It was too big to boil, but I scrubbed/cleaned it with the hottest water that my bathtub would put out. I also let it soak for a couple of days to make sure no tannins were still leaching. I put it in my 55 last night and it looks awesome. My goal is to put up some pictures tonight!!!
Sorry for the long (kinda pointless) post, but I had to share my excitement with someone! My wife just didn't understand why I was so happy over a "piece of wood" |

This is my 55g...which is well overgrown at the moment, but I feel terrible tossing out clippings. I try and hold out as long as possible in hopes someone on the forums is interested Last edited by Steve420; November 3rd, 2009 at 07:37 PM.

| Such a lovely healthy looking tank. Awesome driftwood. I could be interested in some plant starts as I think I am buying my 55 gallon tank this coming weekend. |

| Thanks Lindy. I was really nervous about starting a planted tank because I wasn't sure how hard it was or how much work it would be....
But put it this way...I planted this one in May 09 and by Aug 09, I had two others...
Here are my others...one 10g with Neons and Apple Snails and my other 10g which I split for 2 bettas |

| Beautiful Tanks! Are those all low-mid light plants? I can see you take care of your tanks and plants really well. Great job! I also have a 10g planted tank but struggling with purchasing co2 systems so expensive! Nice piece of driftwood as well, awesome buy! |

| Yeah...I'd say that they are all low to medium light plants.
My tanks are all very low tech setups. I don't run any CO2 (althought I've contemplated the DIY method for my 55g), but I do dose with Excel.
All are at about 2.5w per gallon. My 55 has 130w lighting and my both my 10g have 26w. The lights on my 10g are the basic spiral CFLs that you can buy at walmart...they actually do a really good job. |
