| Weird stuff on my driftwood and rock! Possible threat, please help! I didn't know where to put this, but this is important. Theres this weid stuff on my drifwood and rock that I added on friday. They were in a barrell at the LFS. I looked at them today, and theres this weird stuff on them. Kind of in patches. It looks like a spider nest. It wasn't there friday saturday or sunday, and I thouroughly soaked and cleaned both of these before I put them in the tank. Is this dangerous? What is it! I'm already stessed about the heater failure in my 10gallon, I really hope that this stuff isnt bad... I'l try to get pics. Its white and sorta like in a sheet, it looks like a bubble though, mostly on my rock, but its in the crevases of the driftwood. It really looks like a spider nest, but how could it get there after its been in the water three days?! I haven't checked my tank since last night though, so who knows when it got there. Any help is appreciateed and I'm sorry if I posted this on the wrong board. |

| it actually looks like left over fish food thats cocooned itself ....it happens in my tanks that are cycled with fish food ...could it be that? |

| Maybe, but how did it do that? I wouldn't doubt that thats what it is though, my danios are REALLY messy eaters, and they always drop food, and not because I over feed. But this tank has fish in it...And I used used filter media from my 10gal to get it cycled... |

| The white is drift wood?
That would have to be a lot of left over food. I'd take it out.
Did you boil it?
It almost looks like deposits that build up on a tank with hard water. |

No, I didn't boil it, and the tanks only been going a few days, I haven't feed the danios that much, they're so tiny! They barely need any food at all. Is whatever this stuff is harmful? I know Shawnie said cocooned food, but its in TEENY crevases in my driftwood...on the side, not top. Plus, it doesn't look bubbly on that... |

| Well, that's why I said I'd take it out. I thought it was drift wood. Oh Lordy!
lol ok, then that explains why it looks like a rock.....it is a rock!
Then I agree with Shawnie, it looks like left over food that's molding over. I had some tetra pellets like that, they would get fuzzy over night. |

| Well...I'll try to get it out then. Is it actually harmful though? And one more thing, you said your pellets were fuzzy...but these things are the size of two thumb nails, and I feed the fish crushed up flakes mixed with crushed crisps... |

| It's like mold, it'll grow over the rocks. |

| Wait, do you want me to take the rock out? Or just use the gravel vac on it? |

| Gravel vac like Shawnie suggests.
After that you can use a turkey baster to grab any left overs after feeding time. |

| ...Turkey baster?
Btw, I was just twirling my hair a second ago, and managed to tie it in a knot! XD I got it out though...I can't figure out how I managed to get that to happen... |

| lol @ the hair.
I use a turkey baster if I need to suck something....like left over food, out of the tank in between gravel vacs. |

| It looks like this: Turkey Baster.
You squeeze the bulb then stick it in the tank near the left over food and release the bulb, it'll suck it right up.
You can pick them up anywhere for a couple of dollars. |

| Yeah. And thanks for all the help! I'll work on getting that stuff out as soon as possible. BTW, my 10gal heater failed and I can't keep the temp up. My mom want the tank gone, so its useless to buy a new heater. Is it too soon to put my two platies and single neon tetra(planning to sell him back to the store) in the 29gal? I just put 6 juvenile zebra danios in friday...I don't think my platies can survive in a tank with the tmp being at 70F for 5 more days...(the heater failed on saturday) |

| They'd probably do better going into the big tank instead of being cold.
Keep an eye on your water readings, it may send you into a mini cycle. |

| Okay, I just wasn't too sure if that would be too much for my 29 or not, I'll add them in tonight after I do the gravel vac. |
