Weird white stuff on driftwood

Ive had this peice of driftwood for about 2 weeks, and today i noticed white cottony stuff growing on it, so i took it out. Is there any way to make it stop coming out

did you get it outside or from a petstore?

It's a "latent bacteria". It's safe - some of your fish might even eat it. It'll die out on its own in a week or two.

Had the same thing happen to me when I put some in, though it started showing up after only a few days. My platys would pick at it.

actually it is fungus growing from food left over. just take it out and boil it and it will go away. you must be over feeding!

I suppose it could be that... That's not what it was for me though. I did a little searching when I had it, and several places gave me the bacteria explanation. Basically, as the water soaks through the wood, the bacteria slowly seeps out.

I encourage you to do some searching of your own though. As I said, mine did eventually go away on its own!

I would boil it and put some vinegar on it and clean it off very well!

I had the same thing happen with my first piece of driftwood when it was new. I'd take it out and scrub it but the weird white stuff would come back. The second and third pieces I added never got any white stuff. Still don't know exactly what it was, I guess the point is that eventually it stopped coming back. Might have something to do with its aging/soaking process as some ppl have indicated here....

i'd boil it too, if it wont fit into a pot or whatever you're using to boil, then you can just put it outside and pour boiling water over it
