Driftwood Curing

I have been doing a lot of research on this site about curing driftwood for my 29G. I have to boil it for an hour or two, and then let it soak for a 1-2 weeks doing frequent water changes. This seems to be really well established. My concern stems from the type of water that is to be used. The posts always just say "water." Can I use regular tap water to cure it, or should I used de-chlorinated water?

URFisher35; i just used regular water, but i'm sure someone will be along very shortly to let you know.i also put them in a pot and kept boiling on the stove and they were soaked in just hot water for 2-plus months and then finally in a slow oven[200%] for a few days and you know to this day the colour is still seeping lol and they were bought at the LFS. bella

I have been soaking wood for years in the normal tap water, never once had an issue with it holding chlorine. If it worries you that much, all you have to do is once you've soaked it, is put it in the sun for a few hours, any chlorine that *may* be in it, will be rendered harmless.

The simple solution is to soak it in used tank water or at least treat your tap water with a water conditioner such as Prime. I also think I recall reading that an air stone helps as well... But I might be wrong on that one.

alright cool. im at my parents house for the holiday and i dont have any dechlor around, so i decided to just use plain old tap water. i just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to wreck havoc on my tank when i got back.

thanks guys!

I have heard of people putting them in the dishwasher..no additives in it to help with the tannins, then in water to soak with de-clor products...can take up to months-to-years to decrease the tannins in the drift wood after placed in the aquarium-water only looks bad and some fish like it tea colored...
