To say that they dont wouldnt be a logical thought? Its in their natural habitat... just like it is in a fish's natural habitat. If live plants are proven to make a fish live longer and be healthier, i'm sure the same would be true for driftwood, and for the shrimps.

A happy healthy fish or shrimp will strive in an environment that has the closest resemblence to its natural habitat as what you can possibly provide for it. Live plants, driftwood, substrate/sand for them to dig in, snails.... Everything is good & has positive returns. Plants create micro food for newborns, shrimps; driftwood creates a landmark in their tank to mark as territory, to eat from (plecos- & especially when it starts growing algae on it), to live in

I say yes. definately. without the littlest of doubt.

Mine like to pick at my driftwood and hid in its crevasses...I wouldn't say it's essential to them but they do choose to spend a lot of time around it.
