I can't be sure but it might be mold. If it is you should probably take it out and wipe it down.

Someone who knows more about it can advise you further.

The white slime is a type of fungus. It wont hurt anything, but if you want to get rid of it,take out the wood, wipe it off with a towel and scrub the wood really good with a stiff bristle brush ( to remove ingrain spores). Wipe it down with a cloth with alcohol and allow the alcohol to evaporate. Then scrub it again with a brush, then you can put it back in and not worry about it growing back.

OR,it will go away in about 2 weeks without doing anything.

Fungus is a fungus. Should sanitize. Boil it which will clean all by itself then dry before putting it in. Boiling will also remove tannic acid and humic acid from the driftwood which will bring down pH and add brownish tint to water (from tannin). Have used true driftwood (no slate attached to hold it down) to soften the water along with peat moss to initiate spawning of certain fish for many years (Killies, tetras, etc).
