Driftwood

I'm still have problems with brown water from the wood, water changes aren't helping. I bought them from a LPS shop it's dark redish brown in color. The wood was not from the U.S. I dont remember the company name, but the tag was red white and blue. Anyway here's what I did, I had a piece about the size of a baseball that i cut off. I put it in a pan an boiled it 3 times and changed the water each time. water was still turning color so the 4th time I added bleach and still brown. I GIVE UP. I spent $100.00 for the 2 pieces. They realy look good in the tank but I hate the brown water. Anybody have any ideas.

other than soaking it for a few weeks in water, then boiling, time is the only other thing...the tannis wont hurt anything but some ppl think its an eye sore ....goodluck!

Sometimes it takes longer than 2 months to get rid of the tannin. Bleaching doesn't really help but leaving it under water over a looong period of time eventually will. Depending on the fish you keep, some fish actually prefers tannin water.

I had 1 and at first it was an eye sore but I got used to it. Depending how big your tank is and with regular water changes , it actually helped speed up the process.
