fungi on my driftwood?

I have this white stringy fungi-looking stuff growing on the driftwood in my tank. I want to remove it, but would like to know if anyone dealt with this and is it dangerous to my fish? Here's a pic. the second pic you can see it better.

Note: I wrapped the driftwood with java moss when I started my tank. Maybe the moss had something to do with it?

Hi infynite,

I wasn't sure if they were harmful to my fishes until I had seen them consuming it. Eventually, I took out the drift wood and scrub the stuff off. I simply could not tolerate the sight of it. This happened only during the early stage after I had set up my aquarium.
Never happened again.

I had that once on our driftwood, but used paper towels to wipe it off.

That's a harmless growth that usually appears in new setups.

It will probably go away on it's own, but you can take it off if you wish.

ive had that before as well i dont think its harmful....

if you really really cant stand it id say boil your driftwood that worked for me

just scraping it off didnt do it... it grew back eventually but thats probably because my driftwood has lots of little worm holes thru it for gunk to hide in
