We have driftwood.

Finally snagged some driftwood. I shouldn't have to boil it, right? Maybe just rinse it a few times? When I got it, it was completely white and dried out. That means no coloration from tannin, doesn't it? As you can see below, I've hosed it down, along with a few rocks on top of the ledge in the background. Or maybe you can't see them...the image is darker than I thought it would be; I took this polaroid in the evening sun.

It's a beautiful piece, but it's definitely too big for my 55, so I'm planning on doing some creative sawing.

Since you got it "from the wild" I would definitely boil it. Theres no telling what could be lurking in there to infect your tank. Beautiful piece - love the shape hope you don't have to do too much carving.

I've been combing riversides and stuff for driftwood, but it's either rotting or it's a whole tree. I remembered that Butterfly told me about landscaping people selling her those awesome rocks, so I buckled and visited a nursery/landscaping place and got a few rocks and that driftwood. I'm glad y'all like it, it's heavy as heck

Alas, it is gone for all of us. I don't know how to tell you to see it. It was indeed a very nice looking piece of driftwood.

Maybe they will send a new picture when the tank is set up - do you suppose? How about it Janmitch?

My bad, y'all. I don't know why the picture disappeared. I lost the Polaroid, too! Darn. I'm sure it's lying around somewhere, I'll try to find it. Where do y'all upload your pictures? I guess the site I used was bogus.

As for taking another picture, it won't be the same. I sawed off the "antlers" just minutes ago and I'm about to boil the whole thing. (LOL I just found the picture. It was in the scanner where I left it weeks ago ) The wood was very fresh inside. I think it's cedar; it's very "Indian brown", I think the politically incorrect Crayola color is called. Or a maroony-brown maybe?

Update:
So, I've been pouring pot upon pot of boiling water on my driftwood. It's in an old, upturned thingy that you put on top of your car to carry large pieces of luggage. I've made sure that the exposed red wood (where I had to saw) was underwater and soaking. My water isn't turning brown; does that mean I'm all clear to put the piece into the tank? I evicted several roaches and other creepy crawlies, but that's about it.
