Green cloudy water - algae bloom!

Hi,

I have a 10 gal tank with 2 gold dojos and 3 otos. I use to have 2 guppies with them but gave them away to a friend. I have one live plant in there and a flourescent light. The tank is positioned across the room from my sliding glass door.

I had a green green green cloudy tank and went ahead and stripped it down taking all the water out. I didn't suction too much of the gravel though. Then I added fresh water and conditioned it. Put back my dojos and otos. and replaced my filter. Now the green cloudy water is back again! How can I get rid of it and how do I keep it from coming back?

Thanks,
Vicki

Several cures for green water are discussed in this thread: Green Water

In particular, the euglenoids that are responsible for making your water look green seem to thrive when ammonia levels are elevated. Reducing the amount you feed your fish, or finding a tank large enough for the inhabitants (dojos can get up to 9-10") would both likely help control the ammonia levels in the long run, in addition to the immediate green water cures mentioned in the above thread.

Thank you very much for your post! That's a great thread. I'm going to try the weeping willow method.
