| Daisy got in a fight with a cat.. :( i was on the computer this morning and i heard her growl and bark really lowd, so i ran to the gate and found her chasing off a GIANT neighborhood cat. She ran back inside and started yelping and rolling on the carpet and i checked her face and she had a minor scratch on her face by her left eye. I was so scared. She wasn't opening her eye. I rinsed my finger and began giving her a massage on her face. poor baby she's really scared.. |

| As long as it didn't scrath the eye, she'ss be fine. Put Triple Antibiotic on the cut to help it heal faster. |

| its not likeopen or anything, she just lost a little fur.. are all chihuahuas always aggressive? I think its because she's getting older and she didn't have babies. Could that be possible? |

| Don't believe that myth of dogs needs pups. That's bull.
IMO, I personally cannot stand chihuahuas. All I've ever met are aggressive ones, but I'm not a fan of small dogs to begin with. Is she spayed?? That plays a big role in aggression. |

| You didnt see it, so its possible the cat started the issue.
My dogs are a riot, they chase feral cats, as soon as the cat stops, the dogs run away.
Hope Daisy is okay

When she was about 1 she was getting her rabies booster shot and another( i dont remember the two were together) and she fainted, she had heart failiure(stroke) and they had to revive her and everything. So she's very very weak in that matter. Thats why our vet told us not to spay her. |

| Ah, well then you have to take into account that unspayed/neutered pets are ususally more aggressive. If she is having aggression problems & you are worried about it harming a person, I would seriously consider behavior training. IMO it's good for every dog to go through training no matter what. |

She is mostly nice to the friends i bring over, but when i bring a girl she barks like crazy! I guess she's a little flirt haha |

| As a dog matures, the personality may change. If she's showing aggression towards anyone, I would get her in training ASAP. If she ends up biting someone, that could be a very expensive lawsuit for you. |

| Tony also then mentioned that the dog is showing some aggression to people.
I know that's normal, I have a Pit Bull and 13 cats. But wouldn't you rather take some action to avoid an incident rather than have a thousand dollar lawsuit? |

| Beth, I'm not trying to argue. I'm trying to make a point.
I'm sorry that the amount of money that I was making up doesn't fit the situation. |

| There are many cases where canine aggression can become a scary thing, and intervention in the form of training as a preventative measure is warranted and forward-thinking. However, based on what I read here, I disagree that this is one of those times - I don't get the impression whatsoever that this little dog is vicious and/or dangerous, and simply don't want to unnecessarily scare Tony, who knows his dog's behaviour the best. |

| I understand where you are coming from.
I said, that IMO, ALL dogs benefit from training. That's just my experience from working at a humane society for 7 yrs., and a Vets for an additional 3 yrs. |

| aw, poor Daisy! She got scared by the giant cat.... hehee.... I think maybe Daisy forgets how little she is, right? I've got a female cocker spaniel, Abigail, she's always at the window barking up a storm at chipmunks and squirrels and birds and people, and falling leaves, LOL, anything that moves really! It's like she's letting everyone know she's there.
But she really doesn't like being picked up , even by me. She never liked it, even as a puppy. She'd rather be all stretched out on the floor, and me rub her belly, or she'd much rather play, than be picked up and snuggled. So she's not a lap dog, and that's normal for her, so I can understand Daisy not wanting strangers to pick her up.
here's a pic of Abigail. Post some of Daisy Tony ! |

Post some of Daisy Tony ! | awww she's adorable ya daisy thinks she's a rottweiler (shh! she doesnt know she isnt) she has always let her pick her up and hold her like a baby haha sometimes you can tell she's in a grumpy mood so i wont pick her up. Its funny cuz when she barks she gets all fluffed up like a pomeranian its soo cute to watch, but then again her bark kinda gets annoying when she barks at birds and everything
the pic is kinda what she looks like when she fluffs and puffs up |

| hehee cute ! Yeah, i know what you mean about annoying. Sometimes something outside gets her attention, and the barking can drive me up a wall. But usually, a simple "allright Abigail, I see it, good girl" is enough to stop it. (I've used that psychology on her from the beginning. When she barks, I look out th ewindow and acknowlege what it is she's barking at, and say "good girl". She seems proud when I do that, as if she's done her job, then the barking and/or her interest in whatever it was, ends. ) |

| ahahahahaha ROFL
no my daisy ignores you.
at first i say her name in a normal tone. Then i rise it a little bit. Then i do the dog whisperer shush. If she keeps going i get up, find her and yell DAISY to snap her out of it. When she does, she starts wagging her tail and runs to me i'm like... you crazy dog...
Its hilarious how she puffs up tho.. i'll take a pic in one of her "moments" lol |

| Chihuahuas are definitely a big dog in a little body. They don't realize how small they are until they have already picked a fight with the biggest dog in the park (so to speak). I'm sorry Daisy got scratched by the cat and I hope she is doing better now. One of the breed characteristics of Chi's is that they act like a big dog. They don't know the meaning of the words "you are too small to handle that situation". |

| That's my baby. I got her from the pound the first saturday in January of 2001. She was 9 months old. She had come in as a stray 3 days after Christmas, so I figured she was probably a Christmas present that either they did not want or she got away and they didn't care to look for her. She had already been spayed. I was curious as to her "parentage", so I had a dna test done. She is truly a mutt. The dna test results are divided into three categories, Primary, Secondary, and In the Mix. For a breed to show as Primary, it has to be 50% (or more) and will only show if one of the parents is purebred. The Secondary category is for breeds "detected at significant levels within your dog". The last category, In the Mix, shows breeds that are there, but in very small amounts. My pup showed nothing in the Primary or Secondary categories. In the Mix showed Borzoi, Boxer, German Shepherd, and Labrador Retriever. It's interesting, because those are all larger dogs, and she is only about 25 pounds. She hates getting wet, so I don't know where the lab is. She does love to run, so I guess that's from the Borzoi. Other than that, I've had people tell me that she looks like a red border collie. Or a cross between a Sheltie and a Golden Retriever. Go figure. |
