I only have one shubunkin. The rest of mine are comet/commons. They all started as feeder fish from Walmart and Petsmart. A couple of them were given to me because they were received as "prizes" by little kids and the mom didn't want to deal with them.

No inside tanks - just the pond. I have the goldfish, mosquito fish, a couple of american flag fish, one chinese algae eater, and 2 sailfin plecos. I bring the plecos and CAE in during the winter since it gets too cold in the pond for them. I had two more cae's, but I didn't need them in my pond, and my sister needed them for hers so I gave them to her. Her algae problem has been greatly reduced!

They are a native "minnow" that eat mosquito larvae. Here are some pics of some of mine. The 'fat' ones are the females. The males are smaller and slimmer. They are live bearers so every spring I get lots of little pin ***** babies.

In the top right pic, you can see one of my american flag fish. In the bottom left pic (in the small tank), you can see a very pregnant female.

Yeah they do. Just not as colorful tails and the females are larger than the males. They are fun little fish. I will occasionally feed them freeze dried tubifex worms and they attack the cube like a school of pirahna.

They are both part of the Poecilidae family, so they are related.

family genus species
Guppy Poecilidae Poecilia P. reticulata
Mosquito Fish Poecilidae Gambusia G. affinis

They could probably live in tanks, but they need real sunlight at least part of the day. When my pond was shaded full time, they did not do well.
