| | Fish Keeper | They are nordic retrievers and these two are the best of the best. The most gentle, docile, submissive handsome dogs. Yesterday was the start of a really, really, really crappy time coming up and they knew it. I don't know how they know things. I guess the same way we know things, by general behavior, movements and tone.
But anyway, I love those two pics because in the first one is the 2 year old with his head on the puppy and in the second one the puppy is the one with his paws around the 2 year olds head. I have been a bit worried that the puppy was going play the dominant one over the older one but they seem to be pretty even, I hope it doesn't change. Any thoughts on that? One being the dominant, alpha? Does it have to happen in a pair?

Beth | Generally, if they are from the same litter, they'll already have roles (Alpha, Watcher, Greeter etc) I wouldn't worry too much. We used to feed our smaller dog first, and then the other dog after she'd finished, this helped with dominance issues etc. Also, if you do notice anything going on between them, the elder will soon sort them out with a bit of a bark.
I have a half Lab half Retreiver. He's a failed guide dog and the cutest thing ever. Yours may just beat him off the top spot though! He's eight years old and getting on, and he adores and loves my boyfriend. Probably more than I do haha! Last edited by ABCDemily; June 11th, 2009 at 11:21 AM.

| | Fish Helper | Beth,
What sweet dogs. As long as there is not constant agression between the two dogs. I wouldn't worry about dommence. They will work it out on there own. They'll figure out the pecking order. After all, they look to you to be the Alpha Dog

| | Fish Keeper | Emily, your boy is especially handsome!
There has been not and ounce of agression from either of them. I just worry that because the 2 1/2 yr old is such a docile dog and the other still being a puppy and being spunky that he'll try to dominate. As I write this, I'm sure I'm being paranoid about it.
I do know that the passing of gas going on under my chair right now is gonna send me miles away from the little bugger!!!!!!!! UGHGHGHGHG, Nasty stuff going on down there. wwweeewwww
Off to find some febreze. |
