| Thank you! But it's still trying to adapt to my house. Hence there is a lot of whining and barking when there is no one within sight of the puppy. Lol. But I'm in love with my little boy. |

| Oh my gosh, he's so cute! I really like that breed.
I'm not a dog expert, but I never did like the idea of crate training. We always trained with newspaper (peeing on, not hitting) and taking them out frequently. With lots of praise.
The little guy gets lonely and should be able to find you when he needs comforting. Remember, he's just been taken from his litter mates.
Other than that, I've heard a stuffed toy and a ticking clock help. |

| spaniels are AWESOME! I have my english cocker spaniel and they are the sweetest things in the whole world... congratulations!
they HATE to be alone and that's why they whine... after all it is just a baby recently taken away from mommy... if you can get him a fenced thing and put it in a room where he wont be alone (those they sell in petsmart that look like the ones that are made for babies) and take him out of the cage... he will stop whining (at least mine did). | awwwww he is just precious!! puppies are soooo much fun!
Puppies need to be with either their litter, or their human family at least until they are a few months old...then they learn that lifes not scarey and will venture around alone..
try only crating him when you have to leave, and at bedtime..as lucy said, wrap a ticking alarm clock in a towel or something and put it under his blankets in his crate..eventually, he will be begging to be inside his area..dont let anyone else in it to play or hang out...my kids use to try it alot, but that is a place the puppy will see as his that he wont have to share......its like having a newborn... |

| Here's a couple of things I do when we have foster puppies who whine/bark when crated:
I find that a sheet over the cage helps so they don't see you on the other side. Just make sure it's lightweight and that the puppy can still have good air circulation.
Also, do not take the puppy out of the cage when he barks/whines. If you do, it will teach him that when he does it he gets out. Although it's hard, just ignore him. If you open up the cage and pet or play with him he will see it as a reward for whining/barking. It's hard... but it does work.
He is absolutely ADORABLE by the way!! |

| Aww what an adorable puppy!
I've crate trained my pups only when I leave or when too many people were over and they were too young. I put a sheet over the crate, like a light bed sheet so that the pup wouldn't see. It helped a bit. |

Sleeping like a log. & Sleeping very frequently.
Thank you guys for the replies! I'll definitely try out those methods to make him feel better and hopefully cuts down on the whining and barking. I'll hope that it will help him to feel less anxious when alone. Because I might have to leave the house for a period of time a day. Well, thank you all once again! I'll update more about him as he grows! |

| Wow... Shawnie, you sure have lots of animals around you.
Lalynya, I was also like you. Didn't know what kind of breed will suit me best. But the person who was guiding me showed me this breed the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He said that this breed is super friendly and pretty easy to train. And I fell in love with that little boy on spot. So perhaps you might consider your lifestyle and slowly decide if you want to get a pup.
And I've a question! It's pretty urgent too. I was training my puppy today and was giving him treats as reward. But the actual size of the treat was pretty big, so I broke it or peel it into smaller pieces that can fit into his mouth. But after he ate a few pieces, he started to show signs of "wanting to vomit" he was like coughing and it really seem like he wanted to vomit.
I comforted him and put him back into the crate. He fell asleep and after he woke up, he started to cough and seem to be trying to vomit. But nothing came out. And he seem rather tired and he also didn't had his dinner. I'm so worried. Anyone can advice? Please. |

| My puppy's bowel has been watery also. Watery with a little amount of firm looking ones. Guess he had a stomach upset and that's why he was sluggish yesterday. But today he seem to be better and he start to eat his puppy food. But I'm still pretty worried about him whining and barking due to separation anxiety. I don't want him to whine and bark. Might end up disturbing the neighbors and who know there might be complains. Lol. I'm going to train him to know that it's okay for him to be alone and we will be back. Guess I'll dump in one of my shirt which I wore and let him feel better to have my smell. Lol. Will that be a good idea? |

| Sounds like a good idea too. But my puppy seem to be unwell. I'm observing for one more day. Just now he vomited and he also have diarrhea. I'm not sure what went wrong. I've also clean my hands before touching him.
But he's still eating and drinking. For food, he is eating the same puppy food as when he was in the pet shop before I bought him. Just that I didn't add a mixture of canned food which he was eating also. I wanted him to eat just pure dry food.
If tomorrow he is still having diarrhea and vomiting, I'll take him to a vet along with his poop and puke for the doctor to check it out.
Just asking if anyone can advice me on how to improve his condition? Or is vet the only option left? |

| What did you name him?
You don't want him to get dehydrated, so I would take him to the vet.
One of the first things you should do when getting a pet is take it to the vet, even if it seems healthy.
Has he been checked since you got him?
Once you establish a relationship with a vet, you can always call them for advice for anything.
Good luck, I hope your baby feels better soon. |

| I name him Jasper. I've called the shop to ask what should I do to my little puppy. The person told me to monitor for one more day. But for now, try to keep the puppy hydrated. He said that by giving honey mix with water will be good. Because the dog might not be interested in plain water.
So I've mixed a tiny amount of honey to my dog's drinking bowl. Hoping that my puppy will drink more of it. But if my puppy still seem to be lethargic tomorrow, I'll still bring him to a veterinary.
Like what you said Lucy, I should have brought him for a check up the day I bought him. But I didn't consider that. So perhaps tomorrow I'll bring him for a check up even if he seems to be fine. At least I don't have to make guesses. The vet can determine what is wrong with my puppy.
Well, should I bring any poo, pee, puke, sample for the vet? I'm wondering. |

| Awww, he looks like a Jasper, great name!
Sometimes they want a sample, when you make the appointment, ask them. They might want to check for worms.
If he hasn't had his puppy shots, they'll want to start that also.
I've never heard of giving a puppy honey, that doesn't mean it's wrong, it's just that I never heard of it.
Did the store give you a guarantee of any kind? |
| |
June 19th, 2008
|
| | Fish Helper
| Well the store offered a insurance of 10days. Meaning within day days, if anything happen to the puppy eg. death. They will refund us or something. But we didn't purchase that insurance because it's pretty costly and it's only for 10days.
Agree with your saying. I'll ask them if they need any of my little Jasper's poo, pee and maybe puke sample.
I've also not heard of giving dogs or puppies honey drink. ( as in honey mixed in water ) But if they had given such advise, I'll research online first to assure that it's not going to make my puppy worst then I'll proceed to let my puppy have a try. Hopefully everything will be fine.
I just hope to have a device to interpret a dog's language and be able to know where is he not feeling well. Lol. |

| Wow, usually stores and breeders give a guarantee with the sale of a pet.
If you call the vet today and make the appointment for a puppy check up you can ask them about the honey.
Once you get to know him and he adjusts to your household, you'll be able to tell when he's feeling well and when he's not. |
