| The worse day that I have ever encountered This is the absolute worse day, well make that the last month I have ever encountered in my life.
My Rottweiller(10 yr, old) had to go for a checkup to the Vets office on Nov. 26th for his bad breath that just got out of hand. I just thought he was going to get a tooth pulled. Then the bad news came via telephone from the Vet. Ended up while he was getting his teeth cleaned and 1 tooth pulled, the vet moved his toungue to the side and found a tumor the size of a plum. Upon doing a biopsy it was cancerous. The vet then done xrays of him and found that it had spread to his lungs. Went to pick him up and the vet said theres really nothing he can do as it was to far progressed. He told us we could take him home as some dogs could last a year or more or less. Every dog is different.
We get him home expecting the worse can happen at any time. Well heres our 14 yr. old german shepard with no health problems at all. This was a Monday and now on Saturday my shepard starts to throw up and would'nt you know it,within 10 hours she died in our arms on December 1st. How and why we'll never know and boy did that hurt.
Now just over the past 2 weeks the Rotty's health is looking worse and worse. We decided to call the vets office and had him put to sleep today. I cant even explain how bad it hurts to lose these 2,they were our kids. I could'nt even go in to watch this, but I did get 2 final kisses from him outside the office and of course he shook hands. Were just sitting here crying our hearts out over all this. I still can't believe it. Thinking of all the good times just brings on more tears. The both dogs loved people and kids especially. When we would go out,we would never have to lock our doors,as a matter of fact I can't remember the last time I used a house key. I suffer from seizures and this Rotty and Sheperd were always by my side til I snapped out of it. Christmas at our house is'nt going to be the same this year.
Thanks for listening and if any of you dog lovers out there discover that your dogs breathe has changed ,get him to a vet ASAP.
Last but not least RIP Buddy and Rebel.

| So sorry for your loss, dogs are the best friends you can ever have. I can never express the words I feel at the loss of a doggy friend, but I found this on the internet a little while ago, and it fit.
...for if the dog be well remembered,
if sometimes he leaps through your dreams actual as in life,
eyes kindling, laughing, begging;
it matters not where that dog sleeps.
On a hill where the wind is unrebuked and the trees are roaring,
or beside a stream he knew in puppyhood,
or somewhere in the flatness of a pastureland where most exhilarating cattle graze.
It is one to a dog, and all one to you, and nothing is gained and nothing lost - if memory lives.
But there is one best place to bury a dog.
If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call -
come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death,
and down the well-remembered path and to your side again.
And though you may call a dozen living dogs to heel,
they shall not growl at him nor resent him coming, for he belongs there.
People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall,
who hear no whimper; people who have never really had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them.
The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master. |

| Oh John. This is awful. I have lost a cross-breed german sheperd adn took months to get over him. I know how much they become your dear friends. I am so sorry for your double loss. You must feel terrible. I hope it is some comfort to know that you gave them the respect, trust and care most dogs dream of. I hope your Chrismas is, somehow, still spent in good spirit. My deepest thoughts from Holland. |

| How awful for you to loose both dogs in such a short time with no warnings.
Im so sorry John.. as a dog owner and animal lover, I know how you feel.
Your right about the bad breath and getting the dog checked out. Our "Smoky Girl" had really bad breath as well, when I finally brought her in for a check up we found that she had advanced kidney disease and there was nothing they could do for her. She was a small mixed dog, part sheltie and who knows what else. She was a cutie pie tho. At 13 years old she was a part of the family, mostly my sisters dog but I took her in when my sis moved to another state that wouldnt allow dogs in her place.
It was a very sad day, the last time for her walk down the road. I tried not to cry or show her I was upset because I didnt want to worry her. It was the hardest thing I had to do. I went in with her and held her as the vet gave her the shot and we brought her home and buried her in the backyard.
Well the strangest thing happened...
As I was walking down the driveway to check the mailbox, I looked to my left side and there was Smoky girl.. walking beside me, wagging her tail and she looked so healthy, happy and younger with a bright step in her walk.
She was with me til I got back to the house, I talked to her and told her how happy I was to see her. I knew she came back just to let me know that she was ok.. and she understood what I had to do.
Our pets are part of our family.. and sadly we loose them as we loose family members. Its a part of life.. but we will not stop giving love to a pet.. and bringing to them the best we can do. The rewards are endless when you show your dog your love. They are our protectors when we need them, rescue dogs.. companions.. and a listening board when we need to vent. A body to cuddle and hug when we need comfort during sad times as well. They are always there for us...no matter what.
I wish you comfort in knowing you had so many great years with your beloved Buddy and Rebel... and they also knew and felt your love and care. They were lucky to have found a family with you.
sending 'hugs' your way.... ~ kate |

| I am so sorry for your loses. Especially so close together.
In the summer one of my cats who we only had for a month. A Snowshoe Siamese male, 6 yrs old...got sick and died right in my arms too. Then last month we had to put my parents cat who was apart of my life for 17 years to sleep after he went missing for 8 days. Both cats had kidney failure.
It's an awful feeling loosing your fur kids especially suddenly. |

| Hugs from far away Such a heartbreaker, we know how you are feeling, my family love dogs too. We thought we wouldn't have one again after our shepherd mix, Cinda was put to sleep at 16. She couldn't even get up anymore. But 8 months later came the first Chihuahua, then 6 mos.later a 2nd, then a year later the third. We have gone into debt many times when they've been sick, once Alex almost died! Our pets stay with us forever, please know that it is true...and somewhere out there will be another pet that will need you to love them some day. it's gonna be okay, hang in there the best you can. And cry all you need to, it will help you a little more each time.
Keep your memories of them in your heart, you will see them again someday! |

| Magpie, that poem is so cool, thanks for posting it.
Ewolf, it takes time, but the raw hurt will go away and it will be an empty spot with fond memories. I watched my best friends have to put down an irish setter they'd had for 15 years just last year. The lady that owned him grieved as though she had lost a child, and has just recently gotten out of the depression associated with the loss of that dog, but as with all things life must go on.
Best of luck with your recovery, and with your moving on... I hope you are a strong enough person to keep things held together and not get too depressed. |

| Phew, Thank you people for all the support in this most depressing time. The tears keep flowing, even while shopping and while I'm cooking. It may sound strange but those dogs were my life,as most of you understand.Magpie thanx for that poem,it put chills down my spine when I read it. The worse part is going to happen soon when my wife goes back to work and my daughter returns to college after the holidays. Hopefully I can keep myself busy around the house to help me get through this, and I know for sure it's going to take a very long time. Thank You very much again.

| The pain stays on, only dulling with time, never leaving. I had to put my little Katie down in March 06. I still miss her and tear up when I see a picture of her. Beagle (She's way too stupid to have a name, most of my fish are smarter. The wife and kid call her Peanut) has helped ease the hurt a little, but it's still there. Katie was my little buddy, never asking for more than a chance to go for a ride and a treat. She was there to listen about my day, cheering me up in the darkest time of my life when I was on the verge of loosing everything else in my life. Nothing can compare to to unconditional love a dog will give, without the demands in return, intentional or unconscious, a human would attach to the love they give. Honor your pups by keeping them in your heart until you can join them again in a better place. Quote: |
This soldier, I realized, must have had friends at home and in his regiment; yet he lay there deserted by all except his dog. I looked on, unmoved, at battles which decided the future of nations. Tearless, I had given orders which brought death to thousands. Yet here I was stirred, profoundly stirred, stirred to tears. And by what? By the grief of one dog.

| I'm so sorry John I can't even imagine what it was like to you to lose 2 dogs at once. To me, my pets are my family. Losing one is like losing a family member. I already lost one kitty a while ago, and it was so hard to get over with. And I only had her for about 2 years. Losing a pet that you've had for over 10 years must be so much harder. Well, the good news is that at least they had a good life with you, and that they didn't have to suffer long before they died. I know it will take a whle before you get used to living without them, but what can you do? We all die, that's how life is. The sooner we accept this fact, the better. But you do know you can get another dog or 2 dogs again. And they will make your days bright again, you'll see I couldn't live without pets. After my kitties are gone, I'm defnitely getting another cat or two. And I also have to get a dog at some point! You should do the same. Once again, I am very sorry for your loss. I know it's hard right now, but it will get better, especially when you get another pair of dogs . |

| What a strange day I had here; The mailman comes and drops off the mail and theres a card from the Vet's office. By the way the Vet and myself have known each other since we were 6 years old,a fantastic guy. The card reads on the front:
Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me as if
I were beside you. I loved you so...
'twas Heaven here with you.
With our deepest sympathy regarding the loss of Rebel and Buddy,
**** Animal Hospital
All the Dr.s names and staff...
Wow what a touching moment that was.
The day when Buddy the Rottie was placed to sleep, My wife who always talked to him ,told him while he was going under that when he gets to heaven to send us a sign.
Well just so happens that very night, my wife found baby guppies in the 20 gallon tank and then just tonight she was headed to the store(I was napping) when all I heard was her screaming help get the dog in the house. I immediately got up and here she found a stray German Shepard puppy walking in the middle of the road. She called the dog and it came running up the steps right into the house. My wife was in tears. The dog ran around the house and it really enlightened me and had us wondering was this a sign from Buddy. Well the wife went out 20 minutes later to the store and on the way,she found the people looking for the dog,
She told the lady that the puppy was at our house and gave them a ride to our home. The woman said that she's been trying to find a home for the dog and here 1 of her children left the door open and the dog just took off. She asked us if we wanted to keep her (7 months old). My jaw just dropped and we told her that we would call her, we need to talk this over. Got her phone number and all. We decided that when we get back from Hershey,Pa. tomorrow that were going to call the lady and accept her offer.
The dog is gorgeous black and silver. So I now know that my 2 dogs did get to heaven and Buddy kept his promise by sending us a sign. We are in total shock here and now it's time to open our arms to another best friend.
Merry Christmas to everyone and thanks for all your support during these last few days.

| OMG, Ewolfe ... believe it or not, I had tears in my eyes reading your post! I'm telling you, there is something there on the other side! Both for people and for animals! I mean, what were the odds of that? You tell me! Wow! I am SOOO happy for you! You definitely have to take that puupy home! It's a gift from Buddy and Rottie! There're there with you all the time! See, so don't be sad but be happy, as the card from the vet tells you. By the way, that was such a wonderful gesture on the part of your vet. I love the little poem, so touching.
I am goping to tell your story to my family during our Christmas dinner tomorrow . I deeply believe it was a Christmas gift for you from your 2 dogs. God bless and Merry Christmas to you and to all who are reading this! |

| I'm so sorry about the loss, and happy that God, fate, karma, or pure luck put another creature in need of a home in the path of you, who had recently lost your friends.
I need to start being thankful for every day that my parent's cat (who we got when I was a young teen) lives. He survived a month in the wild last year, and came to us horribly dehydrated and with his collar wrapped around one of his shoulders. He's got severe kidney disease, and should have died from the dehydration, yet he has made a full recovery and his kidneys are actually a little better than they were when he went missing.
There is nothing more painful than losing a family member, whether that family member stands on two or four legs (or, for that matter, swims around in a tank).
Merry Christmas |

| Hello Gang, Well the new pup is in our house now. Have it now for like 3 full days. Oh what a relief, but we still have Buddy and Rebel in our hearts. We cried on christmas day and I could hardly even eat anything.
My wife and I called the lady on the way home from Hershey,Pa. and picked her up immediately. She's a cutie pie and 7 months old and looks like it's going to be a nice sized dog when it's done growing. I was going to name her Emsley but since she was already named,I'll just let it be. There are times that I forget her name, but it's Kuma (coo-maw). The 1st day was havoc here as all she wanted to do was play and run up and down the steps. I was up the entire night with her, very lovable and a kissing queen. The potty training was below average, but since day 2 she now knows where to go outside. She kept going to the front door instead of the back door, but she's got it done pat now. She has'nt had a mistake in the house since.
She does have serious scratching issues,so the very next morning it was time for a flea bath(6 a.m.). Then the flea collar. She jumps like a deer on top of me in the morning to leave her out to potty and I mean landing on me with her 4 paws. I do believe that she had a serious problem with fleas and she was fed the wrong kind of dog food. These people fed her adult dog food instead of puppy food. Then the only time she would eat is if someone was there with her, sitting right by her side and she would'nt eat much at all.
Well that has changed as she finally knows where her food bowl is and as with all my other dogs that I have had,I have her eating Garlic, never did I have a dog with fleas when they had garlic. Has something to do with the garlic being in there blood stream and nothing will bother them. She'll be getting ready soon, within 2 weeks for her first visit to the Vets office for all her shots and whatever else(spaying).
It's so funny around here at night with her running around upstairs from 1 bedroom to the other and then up n down the steps. I can't wait to take her fishing with me and down the little league field this summer. I tell you 1 thing Buddy picked a great Christmas gift for us and god bless him and Rebel.

| All Right!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you....I bet Kuma already feels more loved and cared for than she did. Just sounded like she might have been a burden in her other place. Glad you knew about the garlic, for fleas, it works great. She was meant to be with you and she'll be a great , sounds like she is eager to please and smart (like us dog lovers already know they are). Somewhere in the site is a post on how to do photos, that's what I used...it should be in the How Do I folder near the top of the home page. Happy days to ya |

| Hey there people, I've been so busy here with Kuma that I have'nt had time to update her progress with us. Well had her to the vet about 6 weeks ago for her first shots. At the time I thought she was awful skinny at 54 pounds. The vet said she was predominately German Shepard with a tad of Huskie. Right now she's nearing 9 or 10 months old and has started to fill in to her size. Her weight is nearing 75 pounds and she runs like a deer, all the time. When she gets her picture taken all you see is round circles around her eyes,Like she was born in the sun and wearing sunglasses. Every week we get her a new toy,as she always destroys the one from the week before. This place looks like a child day-care center on some days.. I'm going to try to place some pictures of her on here now. I tried once before and could'nt figure it out and I'm no computer genious by any means. Also so far she has destroyed my wife's sneakers, flip flops and a pair of shoes, lol. At least she listens to her daddy, lol. Leave anything out and it's gone. She has also taken care of a box of plant food tablets for the aquarium. Last edited by ewolfe315; March 8th, 2008 at 12:04 AM.

| Reply with the blue "post reply" button instead of the quick reply box at the bottom of the thread. Down below the text box is a button that says "Manage attachments" Click it and a new window pops up. Use the browse button in that window to find the pic on your computer. After you pic all the pics you want to put in that thread, click "Upload" It'll think for a few moments as your pics are transfered and then you just type, preview and post the reply as normal. |

| Thank You very much Drea for your kind comments on both Kuma and the angels.
The funny thing with Kuma is that she reminds me of Buddy(aka Chase)the rotty so much personality wise.
When we first got Buddy from my brother he was a 1 1/2 yrs. old and my wife had bought this artificial tree and every day for attention he would trounce around the house and grab a leaf off it everyday,so that my wife would have to chase him around the house to get the leaves off of him.
Now it just seems like Kuma is doing the same exact thing to her except it's everything you have to wear on your feet. I laugh so hard here it's hesterical. My daughter came home from college just the other day and she took Kuma for a run and an hour later here comes Kuma with a sneaker in her mouth, yeppers now it's my daughters sneaker, lol.
Every single night around 8 p.m. Kuma comes over to me and just starts barking til I chase her around the house. The dog was a godsend from above.
As for the chewing of objects, I realize she's still a pup in my eyes and is bound to get into things,at least she is'nt chewing the furniture or the wood work. I'll find out more on her personality come spring when I take her down the local little league field and when I take her fishing with me.
One other thing thats funny about her is when I take my shower during the day here,I leave the bathroom door open so she knows that I did'nt leave her. Well she has the tendency to open up the back shower curtain to see whats going on and I get the shower head and squirt her every time. Now not just once but at the least 3 times daily while I'm showering I squirt her. Just one time did I get out of the shower to dry off and here we go, I see the entire roll of toilet paper down the steps. What a dog....

| Well you're getting your lovn and shennanigans from Kuma...I wouldn't be surprized if she is playing buddy and rebel's spirits in the house and the yard. Is Kuma showing any signs of her husky part? like yodellin or that? |
| |
March 12th, 2008
|
| | Fish Helper
| Drea actually no yodellin at all. The only part of her that shows any sign of huskie is her facial features(eyebrows) and the front of her chest has all the huskie markings, other than that, she seems to be german shepard. She is extremely long and quite tall for a female. One of the largest female dogs that I have had.
The one day my wife and myself went down to this new pet store that opened up here and there was an elderly lady there with her 14 year old male dog. So I asked her what type of breed is it and she said it was part wolf and husky. Let me tell you all the markings were identical with Kuma right down to the black tip on her tail. I guess we'll never know exactly which breed she really is til she gets about 2 to 3 years old.
Now those pictures up above of Kuma is when we first had her here just before christmas and in 3 months she has gottin even bigger. Her next agenda is getting spaded in May, need her to get that done before I take her fishing and that ought to be a classic. Now I have someone that can drag me up the hill when were leaving.
I just want to know where she got those huge ears at,lol.. Now my brother came over the other day,1st time since the Super Bowl and he even said that her head is starting to fit the ears. He was even here when I brush her teeth and he could'nt stop laughing. He really can't wait to go fishing as his exact words are,Oh Boy she'll be in the water all day.
You see her pictures up above, what do you think she is mixed with ? Any idea, as to me I don't care 1 bit as long as she is here with us and not in no SPCA. I never had any husky mixed dogs before,so I really can't say if she is or not,I'm just going by the Vets word. They even said we are going to have our hands full with this one as she has a mind of her own and not being as laid back as the angels were.
Oh one last thing we just seen the other day while she was outside doing her doodoo, she is now a digger also, but she can't escape as it's all concrete and fenced in. Last edited by ewolfe315; March 12th, 2008 at 06:15 AM.
