| I found a puppy....
This little guy was wandering around the neighborhood a couple days ago and I noticed a few of the neighbors trying to catch him (unsuccessfully). Later that day, I found him sleeping on my front porch, so I grabbed him and put him my backyard. I put up a few signs and placed an an ad in a local free paper, but I doubt anyone is gonna claim him... he had no collar or anything.
Anyone know what kind of dog he might be? Someone said he looked like a Jack Russell Terrier... he kinda does, except he has a red nose. He's probably just a mutt, but he's a good little pup.
I'd like to keep him... he's a pretty cool little guy, and he absolutely LOVES me, but unfortunately, my yard isn't really properly fenced for a dog and I really can't keep him. I'm hoping my little niece will see him and fall in love with him so my brother will have to take him. The across-the-street neighbor said he'd take him if no one claimed him or I couldn't find him a home. |

| Re: I found a puppy.... Yes, looks like some kind of Lab. And such a cute puppy! I am so glad someone like you has found him, as opposed to some possibly cruel person who wouldn't care what happens to the poor little thing. I am happy that the puppy will have a home, either with your neighbor or your little nice I really hope either of them do adopt this beautiful creature. Best of luck It was the puppy's lucky day when you've found him. I can't leave strays when I see them either. A while ago, I had to raise 3 baby squirrels because their mother was dead and it was just a matter of days when the baby squirrels would be dead too. And right now, my neighbor has a stray female mommy cat with 3 tiny kittens. If I didn't have 2 cats already, I'd definitely take 2 kittens. But my neighbor says she's already looking for homes for them, and will take care of them until she finds homes. I am happy when I see people taking the strays in and helping them |

| Re: I found a puppy.... he is so cute-- you will have to give updates-I love rescue animal stories!! hey dogs can be trained to not have to have fences anyway, unless you are in a more urban area, but all of my dogs could go out without a leash in the yard and be fine! def looks like a lab/terrier mix! adorbale! Miley so sorry u cant keep him! | He's about the size of a cat... just a little guy. I hope someone takes him soon... the more he stays around, the more I want to keep him. And he is becoming really attached to me. He goes absolutely nuts every time he sees me. He's kind of wary of anyone else, but he just LOVES me. And he's such a good pup.
I don't think he'd run away even if we had no fences at all. I'm keeping him in a section in the backyard that is completely fenced, but it's like the driveway area (all cement) in between the main part of the backyard and the front yard. When ever I'm home, I just let him wander free and he just stays right beside me the whole time.
I'm really hoping my brother will take him... he hasn't seen the pup yet (neither has his daughter), but I know my niece will HAVE to have this puppy when she sees him. |

| Re: I found a puppy.... Michelle, afraid I am under strict instructions from your mom not to let you fall in love with another animal in the next 6 months at least. No dog for you, young lady! Quote: |

| Re: I found a puppy.... You're really lucky, Sick-Lid! Yesterday was my second wedding celebration (the Belgian one) and when we drove back from the party, 3 dogs started circling the car close to our house. I burst out of the car in my wedding dress to help catch them, it was so much fun!!! We did catch them and the owner called back in the morning (their number was on the medal). So all's well.
Doesn't he look really massive for a jack russell. I meant robust, big boned. I'd have to guess something with petit basset griffon vendeen (I think they're called PBGV in the US) or some kind of a terrier dog? I love ID guess games! Quote: |

| Re: I found a puppy.... Well, I found him a home today. Some guy that works with my wife said he'd come over and have a look at him because he was looking for a dog for his four-year-old daughter. I was kinda hoping the dog would growl at him or something so he wouldn't want him... but the guy liked the pup... and the pup seemed to kinda like the guy too. I was really sad to see him go, but at the same time I was happy to have saved a stray and find him a good home. |

| Re: I found a puppy.... You said he didn't have tags on him. What's that around his neck? It looks like a name tag or lisence tag of some sort. Did you put that on him or something? What are you going to do if the owner ends up calling you and you tell him you gave him to someone else since you didn't get any calls? No, offence, but if that were my dog and Ilost him and the saw your ad and found out you gave him to someone else I'd be upset. He very well could be a stray or the owner just let him go cuz he didn't want him or whatever, but still what if that wasn't the case? Did you get that guy's number incase someone does call for him? I'm just concerned about the owner and the dog. I know that you want the dog to go to a good home and that's good of you to have found someone that was interested. Natalie |

| Re: I found a puppy.... He didn't have a tag... I found that collar in my garage and the tag is just an old dog licence from 1992. I also gave him a bath to wash off the grime from being on the streets and sleeping under cars.
There's a lot of dogs in my neighborhood and when ever someone loses a dog (which is pretty often) they ALWAYS put up a "Lost Dog" sign knowing that there are lots of dog-lovers in this neighborhood. No sign for this pup. I walked him all around the entire 'hood every evening since the day I found him looking for signs and asking neighbors if they knew anyone who lost a dog. I put up signs all over the neighborhood as well as put an ad in the local free paper. If someone lost him, don't you think they would have probably been asking neighbors if they've seen him, driving around looking for the dog or signs and checking the paper? I know if I lost that pup I would have been all over the 'hood asking around and putting up signs the minute I discovered him missing as well as checking the paper in the next few days if I couldn't find him - as any halfway responsible person would do. |

| Re: I found a puppy.... It's very unlikely that a young pup like that would go very long without anyone contacting you if he was a runaway rather than an unwanted puppy.
Kudos and good karma (the first from myself , the second from the cosmos ) for taking care of a wandering animal. You paid more attention and gave more love to a stray than some of my neighbors give to their own pets.
Chances are that someone's dog had puppies and they couldn't sell all of them, so they just booted the poor little guy out on the street, figuring that the local pound would pick him up, never mind that their actions are a potential death-sentence for the dog.
One little side note: You'd think that someone who lost a beloved pet would try to find him/her immediately, but this isn't always the case. One of the above-mentioned neighbors has a kitten who was pregnant due to the neighbors' stupidity. This kitten was allowed to wander the neighborhood freely. I saw a pregnant kitten and took her in, not knowing she had an owner (no collar). It was a week before there was any response, even when I had signs up at the pet stores and vets in the area. |

| Re: I found a puppy.... Yeah, I'm 99.9% certain he was a stray. I'm guessing someone who didn't want/couldn't keep him dropped him off in a nice neighborhood knowing that SOMEONE would find him and take him. Plus, this pup didn't strike me at all as being the runaway type of dog. After the first day I found him, fed him, and showed him a little love, I could have left gate open and he wouldn't have run off.
But I seriously miss the little guy a lot. It's been SOOO long since I've had a dog and even longer since I had a dog showed affection. The last dog I had was a Dingo many years ago... a really great dog, but completely independent and wasn't at all the jump-around-in-happiness-and-lick-your-face type of dog like this little pup was.

| Re: I found a puppy.... If you ever decide you have the setup for a dog, you might want to think about cocker spaniels. They tend to be very affectionate.
Also, if you're ok with having a dog inside (some people aren't, I know, and that's fine as long as you don't live in Alaska and get a Mexican hairless ), you don't need a fence. My parents had two dogs before they fenced their yard in. Both dogs learned in a couple of months where the edge of the yard was (no electric fence or anything, just my parents calling the dogs back when they roamed too far). The third took a bit longer (several years), but would still stay within a dozen yards of my parents, so would stay in the yard if they were outside.
I really want a dog, but I just don't have the time or funds, and I think one of my cats would have a heart attack. She's really high-strung. |

| Re: I found a puppy.... I'm sorry if I sounded a bit harsh in that post. I certainly didn't mean to sound that way. The poor puppy probably was dropped off somewhere and I feel bad for the little guy, but I'm glad that you found him a good home. I was just stating a what if situation and I would've still gotten that info from the guy you gave him to just in case. You just never know. You did the right thing in the long run and I'm glad that you didn't just send him to the pound, cuz they probably would've just euthanized him if they couldn't find a home for him. So you have my . | you should build that fence. Then if you find another stray, that's one part of being able to keep him/her covered
Just would need to convince the wife lol. |
