I have had many questions about the
DIY Fry/Breeder tanks, mainly related to the materials I use and where they can get them from. It occurred to me that the polycarbonate sheeting that I use isn't available in many parts of the world and very hard to obtain elsewhere. So would you be interested in having the polycarbonate panels available by mail order for you to make the units yourself?
Since I built the first unit, it has been constantly in use, raising over 200 fry in a period of just three weeks. It has proved to be successful for live bearers and egg-layers, is easy to maintain and simple to use. It takes up a lot less space than individual tanks and the water quality is easier to control, due to the overall capacity being much greater than separate tanks. I am now working on using it to breed bettas and gouramis. Larger and more complex units are under construction to enable even greater flexibility.
It also lends itself to other uses, such as keeping male bettas in separate containers without the water quality issues, the need for individual heaters and filters and so on.
I would be willing to supply the core sections for the tanks, pre-prepared, and ready to assemble. All that you would need to do is get the glass panels cut to size and be able to assemble the entire tank unit.
These polycarbonate panels could be cut to size to suit your requirements and shipped directly to you with full instructions for assembly. They could be pre-drilled for water flow and the filter trays could be supplied with them.
There would be cost involved, as the material is not free and shipping costs would have to be covered, but it would be much cheaper than alternatives like separate tanks, heaters and filters. I have designs for multiples of 4, 6, 8, 9 and 12, in depths from 5" to 12" and capacities from 1 gallon to 5 gallons per tank.
If you would be interested in having these parts supplied, let me know.
