| Here you are =P, By the way, the lego with the little "vent" sticker was removed, and a new lego without a sticker was put on. This took me about two hours, (filling tub, finding pieces, building the little tower, soaking in "stress coat", draining tub, preparing tank, placement, and putting the hood back on.) not bad lol.. the other two hours I was gone was spent with company. lol. anyways, hope you guys like it, and also, I made it completely beta-fin-tear proof. |

| I found this link in another thread on this forum.
I thought it might be very useful as it tells of what materials are safe for use in an aquarium. http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/46g_construct.htm

I just placed an order for a bunch of solid color (black) legos and plan on making a moss castle !! I think it would look brilliant, with little pieces of driftwood on the outside of it, to simulate a forest. |

Nice idea. Although not what I'd put in my tanks (Natural, NATURAL, NATURAL!) it sounds pretty cool for people who don't, well, like, um, do planted tanks in every tank but your betta tanks! |

Atlantis is SW - not natural enough for me! But, 50% natural - we don't even know if it existed... Lol, I never let anything but rocks, (Only natural looking ones!), bogwood and plants enter my aquariums unless it's a Breeder trap, filter, heater, thermometer, air system, CO2 system, something that Bettas like. (In Malachai's tank - which I can't grow anything but Java moss in! )

|

As long as there is no plaster on it, it should be OK. |

| This is a great idea, and a great way to get children involved in the aquarium setup. Next time I'm at my parents house I'll snag some old Legos from childhood and give this a shot.
Very creative. |

| I'm not quite sure if this will work, but why not drill a small air release hole in the top of each lego before putting it together. I know there are some small tubes in the bottom, but if you have enought weight you just minght be able to ovecome the buoyancy forces and sink your Leog ship (I mean cave). My gut fealling is this won't work but Engineers have been wrong before, and I don't think being wrong in this case will hurt my liability insurance

Seacoll | Physically, that should work. I thought of the same thing. The only thing you'd have to do is make sure that the bottom was very porous...possibly attach the structure to some sort of mesh at the bottom. If you put the structure in very slowly and at an angle to let water run through, then it might sink easier than trying to weight it down. |

| fishperson......your sunken ship is FANTASTIC!! very effective! i am sooo jealous! i so wish i was creative! the only lego i can build is by following the step by step guides that come with a pack, and even then i usually go wrong, take it all apart and rebuild it!!!shame you had to remove it though! nice while it lasted eh? disappointed at the lack of pics here from everyone else!!! did anyone else complete their project? we should have a lego tank contest and vote for the best! i love pics! |

Wait- why make the decor out of Lego, when with a little bit of silicone sealant you can make the entire tank out of lego?! |

Well, I've got lenty of that from when I was an even younger kid. I could make a 1/2G out of all my transparent lego! |

| HOW COOL IS THAT?! I have enough Legos left over from my kids (who are now 16 x 2 and 19, although every now and then we still get them out and play with them!) to fill my 29g!
I'm thinking maybe you could build a compartment, maybe under or on top of the structure that would HOLD rocks in it. Find a 9 year old kid, they are the BEST Lego engineers!
Another idea I might try when I do a major tank cleaning is just a pile of dishes, maybe tea pots, cups and saucers, stacked up in a jumble like a bus boys tray. Then, when I'm tired of it, it can go right in the dishwasher!
I might do the same with rocks. Living on the water, I have a huge variety of smooth stones in all sizes and shapes.
But the Lego idea is now on the agenda, my kids will LOVE it, and I'll let them do the engineering (they're a little miffed that I keep bringing home fish 'without them', but I'm as impulsive as I am impatient...). Last edited by Bluefish; March 30th, 2008 at 08:40 AM.

| for my platy fry, i made a lego box with small holes, like if you have any of the dome windows(like from most harry potter lego sets) and put those on there. just make openings small enough that only the fry can get in or out. I'm actually trying to make something where the fry can only get in, and not out. it would make catching those guys easier |

| My fish did not like the first two structures at first but now I put in a little half boat with one mast and a minifigure. I once saw my bloodfin tetra peck at the minifigure. I bet he thought it was food! |
