Re: brine shrimp hatchery anyone?

ok, stupid questions coming up, maybe i'm having a blonde moment :, but my brine shrimp eggs have been bubbled with the salt now for nearly 48 hours, and it looks the same. lots of little dots in a brown solution. i assume when they've hatched they look obviously like live food rather than looking much the same? now foolishly i followed the instructions that came with it and added 2 tsps to just over a pint which looking at what you said and at the container seems too much. is this why they havent hatched, or have they hatched and they're just too small to see?! wish i knew what brine shrimp looked like!! i make alot of mistakes...but i do learn from them!!!! lol! should i throw this lot away and start again? can i put it in the guppy tank as i think all the fish in there are tolerant to salt anyway and see if they hatch in the tank? or more annoyingly have i got a faulty batch?
thanks for your patience! - i will get bbs in the end!

Baby brine shrimp are really tiny. Try turning off the bubbler, waiting a few seconds for the stuff to settle, and check in it with a flashlight. Hopefully you'll see a whole bunch of teeny little light reddish brown wigglers - they don't swim fast, and they have kind of a jerky swimming motion.

Re: brine shrimp hatchery anyone?

WOW ! thanks terry! found 3 torches, none with batteries in, but eventually found some batteries that are charged....anyway, shone the torch and there they were wiggling about. before when i took the bubbler out i thought the movement was just them settling to the bottom, but with the torch i could see them swimming in every direction. anyway, given some to my fish and they love it! its even got the shrimp out going loopy trying to climb up the water!! the amount i have will last forever!! i think half a tsp will be ample next time!! you live and learn eh!! i'm off back to watch my fishes enjoying their treat!

Re: brine shrimp hatchery anyone?

The only problem tan you have to keep hatching them because they die in about 24 hours after hatching and smell really bad in about two days. Thats why its good to have two set-ups that way when the first hatch you can start the second and then discard the first when the second hatches. am I confusing?
