L.E.D lights

i'm makeing a l.E.D lighting system for my 5.5g planted tank and need to know how many lumens i would need for high light plants
the tank is 24.6cm high(9.11inch)33.8cm long(13.5)
will have java moss but not shurewhat else but would be in the tank
other than bristlenose cat fish and neon tetras

LED Conversion


1,600 lumens is roughly equivalent to a 23w CFL.

two of these will give you the fluorescent equivalent of 3 watts per gallon.

you'll need over 60 of those to get the same output as the type of LED i linked too. They're cheaper, for sure...but where are you going to put SIXTY of them?


Also, the cheap LED's typically aren't very white...more blue like an LED flashlight. I would personally go with the high intensity LED's because they're designed for general lighting and have very nice, balanced color.

...and 6 is far more manageable than 60 ;-D

yep i agree i'v done some more reserch and i'm going to use those only i'm useing 11+
because i might set it up as a reef later
oh and i was going to use 300-400lol
