Would these sheets of glass work?

Okay, so I'm trying to build my fishtank (like everyone else), and I get the jist of of, and I got links to how to make that, but my question is in regards to what kind og glass can you use...

*I'm not advertising for Home DepoT, I'm just showing the links to a type of glass I might use*

What do people think? I know its not 'exactly' clear glass, but I was curious as to what you all think? Would it work? I know it would be very hard to link all them together....

Thx,
-R

Just to make sure I understand correctly, you're asking about the feasibility of constructing an aquarium out of glass tiles?

Keep in mind that I've never built a tank, nor am I an engineer, but it seems like that would be a recipe for disaster. I can't imagine how it would possibly have enough structural integrity to withstand the outward pressure of the water with seams and silicon joints everywhere.

Yes, you can make your own tank...but less than 20 gallons is cheaper to buy....considering the work, glass, safety, etc...unless you need a non standard tank.

I'm confused too. 3 x 6 inch tiles wont make anything a fish would survive in.

Browse around our forum there are great DYI info's.

That's a really small tank.

If you want to build your own tank it's best to have the glass cut to size by a local glass service. If you're building a large tank you can simply have it delivered and even assembled wherever it's going to be set up. A google search will give you the necessary thickness for different tank volumes.

Oh, okay.... thank you everyone....

for the size of tile, i just did a search for cheap glass tiles at home depot... i was goiong to put them together to make a wall.... then put that with another way, and so on.... but that wouldn't be every smart

Betafish305ca,

I've built many tanks in my time. You cannot glue tile together and expect them to support the water. You need a solid support wall due to pressure. I had a 180 gallon tank made of 1/2 plate glass and if you eyed the tank from one end to the other end (lengthwise) it had a 3/4 inch bow in the middle. What you could do is buy/build you tank then glue tiles on the inside or outside (use aquaium silacone). Buying a tank is cheaper than building one unless your looking for a custom size. Also buy used there a heck of a lot cheaper than new ones. Craigslist is an awesome site for used stuff.

Just my two cents.
Good luck

how do the dynamics of glass thickness and water pressure relate to one another... do these aspects differ when it comes to bottomless tank water pressure
