Making a tank-skirt... O:-)

Okay so funny story...

I've had a cast iron tank stand for 2 years now. I love how it looks, however, I don't have space to put my fish "stuff" (aka w.c. bucket, a rubbermaid bin with food and chemicals in it, etc.) so I keep it all right underneath the tank. Well, it's an eyesore. We just moved around my living room and gave the tank a more prominant spot... and now it looks worse.

I decided I would make a skirt to wrap around the top of the stand so the "stuff" would be covered.

I needed some black fabric and some velcro. I forgot the craft store by us doesn't sell fabric so I had to go to Wal-Mart. Still no fabric section. So I thought, GENIUS, I'll just buy a black full sized sheet for now. So I bought one and headed to find some velcro. I looked at EVERY single pack of velcro I could find. I wanted to buy the kind that has adhesive on the back so I didn't have to sew or glue anything.

Well, I get home and I bought the wrong velcro! I have to sew it on to the fabric as well as glue it to the stand. And then! I realized I bought a fitted sheet just to make things more difficult!!

So here I go.. lol I'll take a picture when I'm done.. Wish me luck!

You could have hemed a 1/2" seam at the top and then inserted strip magnets come in diffrent lengths and would stick to the metal frame.

While this sounds like a great idea -- one that I'm going to borrow btw -- I get the impression that she was trying to avoid sewing (aka hemming).

I think a tank skirt is a good idea (and your shopping trip sounds like something I would do lol). You've inspired me to do something similar with mine. What about water resistant fabrics like a cloth shower curtain?

Glad U all liked the Idea. Also if you flip the magnets the right way the sides will fold over the middle and stick so you can take it off easy while you do the cleaning and easier to put back on

hahaha I did sew a little bit. I pleated it so it would fall nicer but it's still just a little side project... haha. I definitely could have waited and gone to a fabric store and got everything perfect.. but I'm impatient!! So i had to make due with what I could find. I actually wanted to get one of those under the sea or fish shower curtains... but the GUYS I live with thought it looked too tacky!! Imagine that! lol But yeah, I think that's a good idea! I figured I could always throw the sheet into the washing machine if I needed to.

Thanks! I store my bucket underneath for WC and a rubbermaid container with all the food in it.. so it looks a bit bulky but I think it's good enough for now.

LOL, that's awesome!

My old 20gH was an eyesore with it's wrought iron stand, so maybe when I pull the stand back out to set the 25H on[20gH has been gone for 2 years now], I'll make one of these...
