| 125 Reef Tank Stand Hi
I started my 125 gallon tank stand a few days ago and I got the frame and some of the cover done today. Tomorrow I'm going to cover the frame with water resistant coating. Than I'm going to cover the frame with solid oak boards. I'm also making the canopy after this. Right now our tank is set upped in front of a wall, but we're going to move it as a walk around because we have a middle overflow. So we're making doors on all sides of the stand . Right now our stand is pretty beat upped inside and the out side looks really bad.
Also, I need suggestion on what type of stain looks good with oak.
I'll post pictures tomorrow.
Thanks, |

| Good morning ATP.
Sounds like you're coming right along. I've been staining a lot over the past several weeks... Colonial Maple Stain is very nice. Not too light, not too dark. I've used it on my tongue and groove ceilings and all the window seals and frames in the new fish room and the new kitchen. I'm very happy with it.
Best of luck and hope you can share some pictures along the way when you have time.

| hmm. that maple stain looks good too. I'm thinking about classic oak because I already have another tank in the same rooms which has classic oak so i want them to look the same, but I can't decide now.
Here's some picture by the way. The third picture is the opening for the overflow. |

| covered with water proof stain. Currently it's covered with solid poplar on the outside. Can't post pictures right now because we need to finish it by today(have pics, but don't have time to upload all of them).
The stand is almost finish, it needs a stain on the poplar and then we're going to assemble the doors.
We also need to finish the canopy by friday. We finished the frame yesterday. Last edited by ATP; August 20th, 2009 at 09:17 AM.

| Pics...
First picture is when we did a test to see if it could handle a lot of weight. We put a 75 gallon tank filled with water and two 10 gallon container filled with saltwater. It didn't even make a sound.
Last Picture is the metal halides canopy |

| You stands look great, ATP! Beautiful work!
How do you attach the pieces that form the lip to hold the tank in place? Is it nailed and glued to the frame underneath? I see some pre-made stands at my LFS, but they lack the lip. Just wondering how to just add one myself... |

| Oh, that. I use a nail gun and cover the holes with wood filler. You could use a finishing nail because it's the same. |

| Moving the tank is delayed until next week. Our fish aren't looking good currently due to (my mistake) overdosing of iodide. My naso and foxface aren't looking good. Foxface is better since yesterday, but naso isn't looking good. We did a 25% water change, and we might even run two skimmers at a time to remove the iodide. The naso wouldn't move and he's inside a cave of live rock and laying on his side, but the gills are still moving. Too bad I just sold my quarantine tank. |
