Quick and easy and cheap mystery snail egg incubator.

Just one of my off the wall ideas that really worked out well and I thought I would share. I came up with this about a month ago out of desperation as it usually happens for me and now that I know for sure it works here ya go.

You take the slushie or slurpie clear plastic cups any size will do and the dome lid. Rinse them out well. Take the lid and line the inside of it with screen mesh or damp paper towels (both worked for me), the mesh had to be taped on the top edge to hold it in. Put a couple of inches or more of water in the cup itself and put the lid on upside down. Now add in your mystery snail clutches and put either a regular lid on top of all of that or just a plastic sandwich bag. Add just a few pin-sized holes so you don't have too much moisture. I labeled the outside of my cup before filling with water and put the date the eggs were laid and the color of snail. They do great sitting on top of a cable box, dish box, or in my case a really old computer monitor. They stay really warm and just the right amount of moisture and in 14 or so days you have goodles of baby snails.

TY. I had knocked a clutch loose while cleaning one day and had to come up with something quick like with really no supplies. So I had to use my head for that one but it turned out really well. Not the most gorgeous thing in the world but hey nobody comes in my office anyway. Not that it would do them any good to tell me how gross it was or anything anyway.

I've got two golden mystery snails. I'm not familiar with snails and did not realize what I was raking off the lid of my aquarium and throwing away until it was too late. Can the egg clutch just be pulled off and moved or do you put the snail in the cup to lay the eggs? My female snail keeps getting out of the tank and I guess she is hunting somewhere to lay eggs. I found her in the botom of my stand in a box a couple of weeks ago and then yesterday she was in the middle of the floor. I have lids on my aquarium but I guess she is getting out aroung the fillter.
Do you put the snai

My tanks that have mystery snails in them have all the openings covered. I still had two escape this week somehow and one did not survive. I just remove the clutches after letting them sit for at least 24 hours to harden and then put them into my cup. Check out www.applesnail.net it is a great website for any snail info you might want.

Thanks, I thought that they probably weren't any good after they hardened. I threw some away becasue of that reason. I will check out that website for sure.
