| 29 Gallon Fish Tank stand Hi,
I'm making a stand for my 29 gallon tank and I've been working on it for the last few days. I just want to share this with everyone I used 2x4's and 2x2's for the frame and covered it with water resistant plywood. I used moldings for the frame on the door and again covered it with plywood. I still need to make the other door and connect it using hinges. I'm going to paint it white because every furniture in room is white so it will blend in
i will post more pictures later, but I don't have any pictures of the frame without the plywood though. |

I have finished the doors and tried to connect them with hinges, but I bought the wrong hinges and have to take them out and buy new ones |

| Looking good. I would suggest a stain, Colonial Maple. It's a light colored stain and I think would look great and make it stand out from all the white. JMO Last edited by aquarist48; June 30th, 2009 at 07:17 AM.

JMO | I agree with a stain. What color is the trim on your tank? Find a stain that resembles it's hue. Excellent work though, looks very nice. |

| well i made my stand also but i used a black stain and applied it so it looked like old furniture then added poly to it i actually thought of building them to sell you could use a wite stain to show off the grain of the wood also then pole it up to make it shine shine shine |

| I might like white stain it looks just like white paint, but you could see the grain.
I didn't work on it today I was setting up my new 38 Gallon reef/quarantine tank. I will install the new hinges on it tomorrow. I wil post pictures with the doors on the stand tomorrow
The trim on my tank is black, but if you see the top part of my stand, it's raised a little bit to cover the trim and for the hood, i will make the canopy cover the black trim also .
Thanks for the comments, |

| You use 2x4 for the skeleton (it's similar to the metal stand, but it's wooden) And cover the back and sides with thin plywood. For the front, you cover the visible 2x4 with plywood and connect the door to the 2x4. Oh, one more thing, before you connect the 2x4, meaning the first thing you do is to trim the sides, because they're a little bit rounded. (learned that the hard way that's why my door isn't straight)
Good luck with your stand |

I'll be posting new pictures of the stand tomorrow. It's all painted and my tank is already set up yesterday. The Canopy is also finished, but I left the cover in my garage too long (for half a week) and the temperature was around high 90s so the wood got bended. I clamped the wood to the table for about a week now and it's a little bit better. |

| I know I haven't really shown anyone my progress for along time and I'm sorry. I was busy for the last 3 weeks, but now my Tank and Canopy is Completed. The Canopy is 80% completed. There's going to be a lid on top, but the wood got bended, so I'm waiting for the temperature to cool down because all the wood I have is now slightly bended. So here it is so far. |
