Sticking to store bought driftwood...

so i had this really nice log that i wanted to use on my tank, so i decied to do what if been told before. I was told to boil it, or cook it in the oven.
so i boiled it for about 10 mins, an then to be sure i decied to cook it.
I asked my mom if i could use the oven, and she said no.
so i decided to use the microwave. I was doing the dishes while i did this...
So i put the log in the microwave and tiped in 2:50. i kept doing the dishes and then it beeped. I checked it, it was dry.
i decided to do it again.
So i put another 2:50 and kept doing the dishes. About a minute later i started smelling something burning.
i looked over to the microwave and it had smoke coming out of it.
I paused it and started screaming "FIRRE!!!!"
my sister ran to the kitchen and wwith a pair of plyers pulled out the smoking log. I threw it on the sink and let the water run.
My kitchen is still covered with smoke, and my log is all burnt..

yikes, just a heads up, dont use the microwave!!!

LOL...wow yeah thanks for testing that one out

That said the fire probably went a long way toward sterilizing it so you did sort of achieve your goal

Hahaha glad mom wasnt home when i used the microwave. She let me boil and then she went out, and well she came home and the kitchen was covered in smoke.

I was laughing the hole time tho!! My sister was panicking and i was laughing so hard!!

Nah, the burnt stuff is just ash and will dissolve in the water. Maybe put it in a coffee can or something overnight and see what you got in the morning?

Might be able to get it all of though by letting it soak in something overnight and a little scrubbing. Just an idea if the log looks good...

its still salvageable if you can cut off the end of the burnt part...IMO, I wouldnt put ash in a fish tank..but maybe others have and that would be new knowledge to me ...which we learn daily

a good boil usually does the trick...
