This may sound silly,but neat

I'm sitting here looking at the 2 empty 20 gallon tanks wondering what to do with them. I went in the basement for something and found a big box of my old lincoln logs and was thinking with some aquarium silicone I could put together something pretty cool.Has anyone done this or know if it would be safe to try?

I'd imagine they'd be safe...

I would think that lincoln logs are treated with some sort of a stain... and I'm not sure if it would be aquarium safe. It does sound like a neat idea... but I don't think that I would risk it. I'm not basing this one any first hand experience, however... just my own thoughts on the matter.

Are they the old wooden ones or the plastic ones? If it's the wooden ones I would be afraid to use them although they would be cool.

The old wooden ones have a stain on them that may leach into the water. If you used them, you would have to coat the finished product with some type of lacquer or epoxy to keep the stain from leaching into the water.

Gremlin has a point but the logs are made from soft wood like pine and would brake down if not coated with epoxy reisen. Also I would boil some first and see if the stain leeches out of them(1hr boil). If not treated the softwood getting softer by tank water could cause your pH to drop quickly. Cool idea I must say!

You have to be veery careful coating anything with lllacquer or epoxy if you have a pleco or put one in the tank as they will rasp on it and it would make them sick or possible kill them.

You should build something like this, I have been thinking about finding some old tanks on kijiji and building a set up like this. Have fun building!!!

What about legos? They are plastic so I would think that they would be safe. I know they don't have the same natural look... but if it was the retro toy look you were going for I'm sure they would work just fine.

Since Lincoln Logs are made for kids, I would think, whatever they used to stain them would have to be safe in case kids put them in their mouths. Just a thought.
