| Computer Monitor Fish Tank? Ever thought about making one of these? http://www.instructables.com/id/Turn...to-A-Fish-Tan/
I always thought it'd be a cute idea for a tank. The only part I would change is instead of using the front panel from the monitor, I'd use plexiglass all the way around. Computer monitors have lead in them which can (and will) eventually kill whatever's in the tank.
I'm thinking about doing it as a summer project. Should be fun. I think the fish I'd keep in it would have to be something that definitely doesn't need much room- looks perfect for a betta, or some shrimp. |

| All I'm really in need of right now is some plexiglass, silicone, and that's about it. Should be fun to do. |

| I don't know. I don't think very many...it's probably enough to keep some shrimp or a betta..
If I do do it I'll post pics, or even progress pictures! |

| I know this is an old thread, but I would suggest:
1. No goldfish like the author. Maybe a betta
2. Glass + plexi probably won't hold a seal over time, will they? I didn't think they were compatible, and some comments on that thread seem to confirm that.
3. The stuff used to clean that CRT glass, plus the residue from the chemicals inside it can't be good for any fish. For #2 and #3 reasons, I'd suggest getting a flat panel CRT and replacing the whole glass tube with rectangular plexi.
4. Be sure to leave room for a filter and heater

| Just keep in mind that the stuff inside monitors is pretty nasty stuff. Lots of copper, lead and other heavy metals, and the tubes are typically filled with stuff that outgasses from the internal tube bits.

| Yeah,
I'm thinking this idea doesn't look so great. For me anyway. I'm not doubting that it "can" be done but yikes. Seems kinda risky, time consuming and dangerous to fish and human. They have 5 gallon tank kits at walmart for $30.00 |

| i didnt have trouble gutting it
i took it all apart in one piece and then disposed it. I had to go get info on how to dispose computers so thats where i took the remains of the computer lol
Cesch, the reason im doing this is because its a fun way to recycle and besides, glass/acrylic and all the stuff needed is rather cheap here! cheaper than a new tank anyways |

| I do wanna see the end results....no I am not going to try it I would probably end up losing an arm or eye or something else I really needed. I don't need any help getting hurt at all, I do just fine in that area all by myself. But I did picture (very vivid imagination here) a big screen TV as a tank....oh the ideas. Nah I'm not going that route I need my body parts too much to try it and I hope Tommy does not see this....YIKES....he would try it with god only knows what. |

| It would a more attractive project if there were some way to salvage the CRT tube into an aquarium like the old 5 gallon glass water bottles people used to cut and make fish tanks out of. But a Plexiglas tank wrapped in a monitor housing is a bit of a chore for the effect. Be careful with those old cheap CRT's they can hold quite an electric shock on the capacitor even if not plugged in, and if you accidentally crack the CRT it could implode. |
