simple filter diffuser

This design has been working very well for me. If I did it again I would shorten the tube. This has NO effect on the performance of the filter.

I'm fairly new to all this. Where does it fit exactly and how does it enhance performance? I'm interested in anything that will improve tank health without chemical use where possible.

Cut a slot in the tube to fit over the filter discharge. Leave a flap when cutting, to attach to the filter cover. It doesn't really enhace the filter operation other than adding filter media into it for more bacterial action and deaden the slash noise. I did it because my tank is only 12" wide and all the water was shooting into one area. You could cut several hole in it and have the water running out in several directions.
