I am not sure about the actual construction of it. I used to have fish tanks on a few of my bookcases and I would just advise making sure that you have a lot of space above the book case for maininance otherwise it makes doing water changes really hard. I would like to see the finished product when you are done. It sounds very cool.

petco carries a "bookcase" tank setup. just saw it today. looked to be an acrylic. don't quote me on it. looks like a cool tank to have even if it wasn't for a bookcase.

what size tank?

I envision something like a 20 gallon in between two columns of books, with maybe a few shelves above. Under the tank would be a cabinet for storage.

We have one, but let me encourage you to leave PLENTY of room behind it! We have only a small space behind it, and it's difficult to work back there. Plus we have shelves above the tank and will never do that again! You need a t least 2-2.5 feet above it to work comfortably. Plus the sides of the tank are flush with the sides of the bookshelf unit and you can't get in there to clean the sides. I love the look from the living room side, but not sure I will do it again in the next house though.... Just my experience.

Well my hubby is working on a new entertainment center for us and he has 2-10 gallons on the left and is planning on 2-10 gallons on the right. There will be doors above each tank with extra working room and the whole side on the left will be a door too. Keep in mind it is not finished but this is what we have so far. Plus I am trying to arranage my photobucket page so right now everything in there is a bit scattered.
