Try this link at reefcentral are a number of calculators:

http://www.reefcentral.com/index.php?

I got this off of reefkeepers and reefcentral along time ago as a general rule. below is the general value i have for .5inch diameter hose/pipe. There are a number of factors invloved such as horizontal and vertical length of pipe/hose. friction coefficiant, drop from tank to water, linear overflow, etc., but looking at the formulas out there for gravity feed - this baseline comes close when i use it. Essentially you can go to the rc drain size calculator and plug in the GPH and it will give appropriate drain size. 150gph = .5" minimum ID. Reefcentral and other sites like it have alot of discussion when using sumps and return pumps.

1/2 " PVC
3.5 Gpm
210 Gph

I hope this helps you out

bad idea. the tank will drain when the power goes out.

use an overflow box, then you also don't have to worry about matching flow rates. the overflow will match the pump output, as long as pump flow doesn't exceed the overflow's capability. simple.
