Repair a 40 gal tank.

Hi all! My boyfriend just salvaged a 40 gal tank from next store in a junk pile, lol!! Anyway, the bottom glass has fallen out, we knew this yesterday that the tank was broken, he brought it up the stairs about a 1/2 hour ago. Now my question is can it be repaired? He can do stuff like that but is it worth to try and fix? Just get some aquarium silicone.

Some opinions or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

if the glass is still intact, then i say just go with some silicone. i'm pretty sure people use painters tape around where you want the silicone to be to give you a clean line, and then make sure to let it sit for a few days

thanks agabr123!!! Yes, the glass is still intact with the frame. Its that what you meant? Just attaching it back to the rest of the tank.

It will make a great Angelfish tank cause it's tall!

Can you post pics of the tank? That would give us a better idea of the conditions of it.

It's a good thing the bottom glass is intact. Usually that glass is tempered. Being careful to remove old silicon with a blade (I mention this based on my frequent cutting experiences: last one meant three stitches) or maybe with a solvent like acetone (nail polish remover).

Use Aquarium safe silicon. There are transparent silicon out there with added chemicals to prevent fungus, don't use those.

Have fun with it. After all, the setting up stage is a great part of fishkeeping.

that and that the glass hadn't broken in half or anything when it fell out! that's a great find if it's still with the frame as well.
