DIY external background

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this idea yet but I was in a stitch looking for a background for my 55 gallon, never the right size or color, so I decided to try and use wrapping paper. I found a great blue at target and it's inexpensive so it's easy to change if it gets wet or I want to change the color. At 40 sq feet for under five bucks it's worth a shot

What you can do too is take it to any printing place and have it laminated ($?) That will make it lots more water resistant. I know some ppl have printed out poster-size pictures and done that.

another great idea!!!!!! although you can laminate it yourself ...laminating paper is pretty cheap...but I like to change mine or at least my granddaughter does LOL but the laminating is awesome! and affordable...there are so many more colorful fun patterns with wrapping paper than with actual tank backgrounds

That is a great idea..Plus you could decorate your tanks for the holidays that way..lol...Valentines is coming up that would be cute with hearts in the background!!..Also for all my smaller tanks I use poster board and cut it to size. .60 cents at Walmart for a big sheet of it..Can't beat it but it wouldn't work for larger tanks.

you can always leave the sides open,. and that way you can change the paper out easily , and have it laminated !!! just slide threw, pull threw.. you can always use cardboard, or any kinda colored thin object, to place inside. I would like to make a cool rock looking background that looks like lots of depth, without loosing actual tank space .. wheels are turning ...

I've been using some old T-Shirts as a backdrop for my 26 bow. Quick, washable and oh sooo many designs.

or do what i did and just buy a deep blue sea background at petsmart($1.99 per ft) and some sea view($3.99) and be done with it. once you get the bubbles out its on there for the life of the tank.

but the great thing about it is if you want to swap it out, you just lift up one corner with an xacto blade and pull it off. the sea view is almost like an oil.. pretty cool stuff

may I ask, what is Seaview? you get a lot of not-right answers when you google it. Is it an oil (?) to paste on tank backgrounds?
