Building a refugium/sump for my 36g Bowfront

I was wondering what size would be best? I am going to get a tank that size and try to build my own.
Can anyone give me some ideas on a blue print for one?

Hi Angela,
First thing to look at is how much room you have for the sump.
IMO a 2nd hand tank works fine for a sump.
This is a pic of the sump we made, it may help you with the baffle placement.
Also this is a link that has helped us so it may help you.

"Should" is not the same as does..
Get the "sump" under the tank and see how it looks, then see where the skimmer will go... see if it will fit and its easy to clean.
It would be a shame to do all the work and then it dont fit...

actually w/ the cabinet its to big to go through the door. but if I put it in there from the back their is plenty room. I might go with getting some acrylic and building it myself. I swear though, the 58g is looking more and more like a SW tank to me. It would hold a 20l under it for a sump.

You started with fresh water, slowly adding salt, you will soon be at SG 1.024, Your resistance has been strong, but you can not resist the salty side

lol, I just keep looking at the 58g oceanic and thinking about how pretty of a reef tank it would be.

Funny, once we have the reef done, we want to do a 6' fresh and a SW for some agro fish. We have the nano empty now that the clowns are in the 85g... Thinking about mushroom tank if we can find some nice colours.
I have not worked with acrylic, glass yes.
I found it cheaper to buy a tank and do the mods than make a new sump, may pay to check on the prices.
How are the puffers and corals going?
