Ok, as some may know we have been working on our marine tank and
sump for some time now.
The tank is located inside the house ( yes I know, good place to have it! ).
The sump is outside.. So we looked at how to get the plumbing from inside to outside... The walls are double brick, so that would have been a messy job to have the pipes go through the walls.
As we had a window to one side of the tank, a thought crossed my mind, drill the glass in the window and fit a bulk heads for the discharge and return lines.
Now my brother Tim has a diamond glass hole saw 35mm or about 1 3/8".
So great care was taken and the 2 holes were drilled in the window ( glass is 3mm or 1/8" thick ).
The first bulk head was fitted, no problems, as I was tightening the 2nd I must have twisted the fitting a bit and cracked the glass

its only a small crack.. but it is a crack.
Thinking about what I could have done to prevent the crack..
Next time I would get 2 bits of 6mm or 1/4" glass, 100mm or 4" sq, drill a hole in the center, then silicon it to the window.
Dill the window through the hole in the 6mm glass then fit the bulk head, the 6mm glass would reinforce the 3mm glass and should prevent it from cracking.
Anyway thats my first stuff up for the year, but just thought that if someone need to drill holes in a window.. reinforce the glass first.
