The algae scrubber is complete. It is only a basic one, with a small screen (compared to what would be needed for the size of the tank), and it relies on the aquarium's own lights to work, but I didn't want to take all of the phosphorous out of the system, as I have live plants that need nutrients, too.
Here's a short video of all of the pieces.
Aside from the water pump (which is a leftover I have from the failed refugium), the entire thing cost me about $2 to make. I could have made a much larger one for very little more, as PVC piping is really cheap, as are the fittings for it.

very nice. I'm also in the process of building one in my sump for my 65 gallon SW tank. I should have it up and running on Wednesday. I've been dealing with really bad algae on my sand. Ok so more cynobacteria and diatoms but it's still the same basic issue.
So far I've spent $10 in cpvc piping, $10 on a high output light and $7 for the light fixture. I already had a pump and hose already so that was no cost for me. Oh and a whole 39 cents (plus tax..heh) for the screen.
