Red's Betta Tower

Ok here is my big brainstorm. Please feel free to comment all you like. I'm not really good at working out the details. Any help with the filtration would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT-
Should work now.
P.S. applologize for any spelling errors. I didn't proof read.

Hmm... maybe that's why I didn't get any comments on it if no one could see it... Basically it's 4 12X12X12 tanks in a steel tower with wood siding. It stands about 5'3" total height. the first tank is raised 12" off the floor and after that there is 4" 'flap' that allows access to the top of the tank for maintenance and lighting. The side panels (the stand is deeper then the tanks to allow for the plumbing) are removable giving full access behind. The tanks are also all drilled, intake through the bottom panel and return at the top of the back. One idea was the make a "self" for the water to trickle down like a waterfall to minimize the surface disturbance.

The cabniet struc. has a stand on each side and a big tank in the middle. The stands sit ontop of the cabinet and are 3 tanks high with the same spacing inbetween allowing 6 tanks instead of 4.

and that is basically the summery. if you can't get the pics to enlarge.

From the looks of your diagrams regarding the 4 tank setup, I am assuming you are looking at doing a centralised filtration setup with a sump; which is why you have the 1st tank 12" off the floor. If so, with the water outlets at the bottom of the tanks, should the power go out, your tanks would all empty themselves and overflow your sump - not something I think you'd wish.

So I did you a quick couple of pictures/diagrams on how it would work better; using your tank to tank flow:

Personally, I would have inlets coming off the pipe from the sump to each individual tank with ball valves to regulate the flow. Each tank would also have it's own outlet pipe that could either directly go to the sump or merge into a bigger pipe that would then go to the sump.

Hope this was helpful

Thanks D,
I hadn't quite decided if I was running all that tanks on a group filtration or not yet. The first tank is raised mostly so that it's actually visible.

Oh Red.........Ummmmmmmmm Do you have MTS? lol.....Looks like a great set up! My divided tank (14 sections) is drilled and runs off of a renal star filter...It's a great filter as you can adjust the flow down to a dribble if needed..

Good luck! I can't wait to see the finished product!

Glad to have been of help.

Running the tanks with a sump would be more cost effective as you would only need one heater (I'd recommend a 300watt) and one pump as opposed to a heater and a filter in each tank. It would also make water changes easier and the water parameters would be better too.

For the pump you would want something like the model 2200 Quiet One pump as an example.

Incidently, you can also run your 6 tank version in a similar manner.

Regards,
D

red, I looked at the pics and if you were to connect all then i would have to agree with D about them over flowing your sump. Although I would have to say, that would be a sweet deal getting them all up in a line. Have fun and don"t forget to show pics if you decide to make it.
