The same design idea with a twist (literally) about 2in below the pipette,install a small valve (such as an airflow regulator valve) between the upper and lower portion of the hose. Establish your suction with the valve fully open,then twist the valve to reduce the flow to suit your needs. This works well for small vaccuum or larger vaccuums,you just need to increase or decrease the size of the valve accordingly.Works very well for me in all sizes of my aquariums.
