Floating Island of Plants

I want to make a little island of plants for my 90g to give the guppies a place to hide.
I was thinking of attaching Java moss and Java fern to a piece of styrofoam or the like, but don't know if they're aquarium-safe.
Anyone around here have ideas?

I have seen it suggested that one use 1/2 a styrofoam cup for a betta to build their nest up under, so I would think it would be safe...

Yep me too!
Floating water sprite makes a good floating island also. Fish love the roots hanging down.

Styro is safe. Stony Coral frags are shipped floating upside down attached to a block of styrofoam in many many cases.

Awesome! Thanks. I've got an idea for a little "bog" island. I'm starting it tonight.

Okay: I've completed the base. It's a piece of filter media with four styrofoam balls sunk into its surface and sealed in place with silicone. I think the filter media would float on its own, but just in case it sinks once it gets loaded with water and plants, the styrofoam should float.

The plan is to find some sort of small marsh plant to grow on top of the sponge and then lace the bottom part with Christmas moss.

Not much in the way of completion. I need to run right now. I'll try to get pics of what I've got tonight.

It's growing some algae, and a little bit of Christmas moss has stayed attached to it. I've been dealing with trying to get an algal bloom under control, so haven't had much time to work on populating it.

Sounds great SDS I might try something like that in my 55 gallon that I will be planting in December. I also read something today about someone using sterilized cork to make plants float.
