Tank / Stand Pad for 125 Gallon?

I"m setting up my 125 and I'm seeing a lot of different techniques and materials for foam padding between the tank and stand. My tank is an All Glass and some people only put foam around the bottom frame perimeter.

On the other hand, these guys recommend 1" high density foam across the entire bottom and they appear to manufacture tanks with frames!

What to do?

I have an industrial metal stand with pine over plywood top. The traditional blue or pink high density foam doesn't appear to be locally available.

Has anyone used a blue foam sleeping pad? This closed cell pad is 1cm thick and fairly high density, but it will compress quite a bit, I know.

Thanks,

Have you check for the foam at home improvement stores, or you could call some home builders to see if they have some you could have(scrap) or they might sell you some. Drive around town looking for constrution sites that are useing the foam and ask if you can have some.

I guess the idea is to distribute the pressure evenly over the bottom of the tank. I'm not sure it's always a good idea, however. I think the All-Glass tanks are designed to support the tank along the edges, via the frame. The center of the bottoms don't even "touch down."

For a bare bottom tank, it makes more sense to me, but I just went ahead and placed my All-Glass 125 directly on the wood counter top on my steel bench.

Good idea to check construction sites, fishgirl. Seems the "home improvement" stores are hit and miss. They don't stock it around here.
