Out door ponds

Does anyone have a DIY formula to make an outside pond?

With all the nice weather approaching, ive been wanting to do one for years...just never had the space until this year...

Any ideas or suggestions you know, would be greatly appreciated...

Bring on summer!!

Too much work for me, but good luck with it. Just be sure you have the money for it because it would be terrible if you got halfway and ran out of funds.

I have heard people on these boards use plastic tubs outdoors. Also some even use them indoors. Not quite as pretty as a real pond but cheaper im sure.

im new to ponds too but i have set one up and it really wasnt that hard. the first thing to do is the same with building anything else, location, you want to make sure that the pond will recieve the amount of sunlight that the plants that you will put around it will flourish. next is you are goung to have to decide on the size of the pond while also keeping in mind that the bigger the more expensive. once you have done this its then deciding if you want to do a preformed liner or do you want to make your own design. idid the preformed it was easier to do so im gunna take you through the steps of a preformed liner. once you buy it you are also gunna want to buy a filter large enough for it. diggig is the hardest part, you have to trace the top rim of the pond on the ground with stakes then dig to the depth of the pond, usually 1 or 2 feet, keeping in mind that the pond will have to fit in it and be level. after you have dug and put your pond in the ground you now have to line the rim. i used rocks ,easier and it looks nice, glue rocks together on top of the top rim of the pond till the rocks are level with the original ground. after that it is just the same as any aquarium but i would stillgo to home depot or hardware store that has ponds and ask lots of questions and buy a good book. it will help to see pictures and a better description. hope this helps if not you may yell and get mad at me in my pms

If you want to go larger me and my friends built 2 different ones

The first we used a bucket loader to take out a large area and then we laid down 4 tons of crushed stone dust on top of that we did an ungodly amount of sand and then dug out to a stream near buy basicly diverting it to make a kio pond

2ns option make a big hole in the ground the shape you want use the dirt from the hole to make a hill (we built a filter box and then covered it with the dirt we removed... then we used roofing rubber to cover the hole and the mound we made to hide the filter

then hot pressed the seals but I heard you can just glue them with roofing cement.. Added tubing sealed more of the seems then sealed them again

We added rocks ontop of the rubber on the mound to hide the visable rubber and make a nice little waterfall.. add water and some feeder gold fish and your good to go
