Where is a good place to buy aquarium materials, preferably acrylic instead of glass?

I would find a locally owned hardware store to see if the owner could order what you need. (Locally owned because they are more likely to order things they do not normally keep in stock than chain stores, in my opinion.)

If that were to fail, perhaps try a glass store... See if they have access to acrylic or just glass, plexiglass, fiberglass, etc.

Where are you located at? Depending on where you live, look for an AIN Plastics, E&T Plastics or Curbell Plastics office in your region. All three are wholesalers who stock, or can get, any sort of plastic, plastic working tool or cement you can imagine, and about a million you never knew existed. Depending on how big of a tank your thinking about, you may even be able to mooch or buy scraps and cut-offs dirt cheap.

edit: you'll probably have to do an internet search or a B-to-B book, I doubt any of the three would be in residential yellow pages.
