Building Your Own Siphon Kit

Here's a quick parts list to build your own siphon kit. This is the bare items needed. You can further add the faucet pump which will require the water to be running to create the siphon and do away with the siphon bulb. If no faucet pump or primer bulb is used, simply suck on the end of the hose to get the siphon started. Also, the on/off valve can be added too. Without it though, just crimp the hose in your hand to control the water flow.

There are various length gravel tubes, as well as, hoses to accomodate your specific distances. On the gravel tube, simply discard the hose that comes with it and attach your clear vinyl hose directly to the gravel tube. One could search Lowe's or Home Depot for a cheaper price on the clear vinyl and likely find the gravel tube for cheap on eBay. DFS was used as a one stop place to get a complete list instead of posting links to different places.

Another option to clear vinyl tubing would be to purchase a standard carden hose. This shouldn't be a problem for siphoning, but not sure if the hose would contaminate anything if used for filling.

This is 25' for $13 and safe for campers. Might be safe for aquarium use.
